From previous articles i read, don't think it is negotiating talk. He AND his family likes Chicago and want to move back there.

We all hate to see him go, but thats part of the business. If he isn't happy in SF, can't force him.
For one year they can. They tagged him. He either plays or sits for a year.

Need a 4th or a S from the Bears!

Well they don't have a fifth round pick so that would be a good range to take start thinking about taking a kicker or punter.

I wouldn't want an unhappy and pissed off PK, do you?
I hear you but he won't ruin his reputation by missing kicks. I'd rather have him happy but if he wants o sit out the year, I'd let him do it.
He's been their MVP the last two seasons so you just can't let him walk.

Well he can't walk. He has to be traded or sit out.

Yes, not saying let him walk, am saying go ahead and execute a trade.

We all know how good a kicker he's been, but now that he's unhappy and doesn't want to be in SF........

Sitting out and walking is the same to me. If he wants to do that and miss a season of 5 million dollars I'd let him do it. I would not let him blackmail me into sending him back to Chicago.

To me that depends on what they can get from Chicago

Chicago would have to give up two first round picks to sign him because he has the Tag on him. They won't do that. The Niners would have to lift the tag

The 49ers didn't pay that for Ford but perhaps a point in the season has been reached that they can't make a deal. I would try to get a 3rd and probably settle for a 4th because the Bears don't have a first or a second from trades made last year.

Because KC released him from the Tag. I believe the Niners put the transitional tag on Gould which would allow other teams to sign him but would cost them two first rounders.

Transitional tags mean another team could sign him but the 49ers would get nothing in return. They could only match the offer to keep him. I believe they will be able to trade him for less than two first round picks.

No. It is my understanding that a team has to give up two firsts to sign him if the Niners keep the tag on him

Not a transitional tag that only gives the option to match. The other franchise tags require draft pick compensation.

So just to spite Gould, you're giving up a draft pick?

What about his cap hit, wouldn't that go away? Wouldn't this allow the 49ers to carry it over to 2020?
