For all of you who live near Morgantown, if you even like baseball a little... I highly encourage you to see this team... and especially this pitcher... do their thing.

Alek is special. For those of you who have seen him play or have read anything about him in the papers, you know he’s receiving a ton of props lately.

Slaton10 and I went to their game against TT on Friday night. I have to admit, by the time the game got into the 4th inning... I was like some little kid! I was so excited about every single pitch coming out of his hand.

He totally dominated a team ranked #11 coming into the 3 game series. A team full of .300+ batters. A total of 2 hits made it outside of the infield.

Go watch him play while you can. I’m no expert in these kind of things, but those who are think he’s going to be a 1st round MLB draft pick. WVU don’t get many of them.

The team is solid behind him too. Speed... defense... hitters...

Just found this article... that damn Oliver Luck...

Mazey’s Mountaineers Playing Must-See Baseball - West Virginia University Athletics

What is now lost to history is then-athletic director Oliver Luck arranging a meeting of college and professional baseball experts to determine the future viability of the baseball program when West Virginia was about to join the Big 12 eight years ago.

One of the alternatives that Luck considered was dropping the program altogether because of the enormous cost in getting it competitive with the other schools in the Big 12.

In fact, there was such a significant gap between West Virginia and the rest of the conference at the time that the remaining baseball programs in the league were not happy the Mountaineers were one of the two schools chosen to replace departing Texas A&M and Missouri.

In their minds, TCU was the only incoming baseball program of equal value in return, but Luck opted to invest in WVU baseball, rallied support for a new ballpark and hired an outstanding coach in Mazey, whose track record of coaching successes at Charleston Southern and East Carolina, plus his local tie of being from nearby Johnstown, Pennsylvania, made him the right man to lead WVU baseball out of the abyss.

I remember a few idiots whining about Van Zant, fucken retards. The same ones who whined about the old wrestling coach getting canned for stinking the place up. That Mickey shit all over his career as far as I'm concerned in his last few years. Think Old Dad was one of them whining about the Mazey hire.

I liked Van Zant, and wasn't happy about his firing. Buuut... Mazey is awesome. Great coach and an even better person.

PLUS, he had HC experience at smaller schools.

And I always thought that being from WV would overcome the HC at a small school rule. Damn. Learn something new everyday. Your boy Pastilong didn’t follow your rule but Van Zant probably gave Eddie the homeboy discount.

Luck picked a good coach, but more important was the facility.

Build it and they will come. The new ballpark probably has more impact than the coaching change. That is the signature Luck put on this University and it will pay dividends for years to come.

The Ball park is a gem....the parking is jacked up, but I am sure as the University and City continue to develop that area that will be taken care of. If any of you have not had a chance to see the new stadium, going to see a game there is worth the trip!
