Pitino wants the St. John's job it appears

if the two sides can agree on the money, St. John's would be dumb to not hire him.

I don't like Pitino, he's a sleazeball, but St. John's has nothing to lose here

But he's demanding an apology from New York first, so yeah.

I don't think anybody would argue it's as good as is was in the late 2000's and early 2010's. But that was also a league with 16 teams. But nobody was that good back then including the ACC.

And some of it is Nova, but Xavier has also been a 1 and 2 seed and made an E8. Butler has been good except this year, Providence has been good except this year and I think Seton Hall has made the tournament 4 years in a row. Also Georgetown has been bad by their standards in this new league. If they can get back to what they were that's even better. And Marquette has gained traction under Wojo. It's a good league, but yes, definitely not what it was.

I get ya regarding the tv stuff. Obviously they don’t have the espn backing. But the league has still had a strong selling point using their basketball only roots. They have teams that rate really well in attendance. The main stays play in NBA markets. That’s. Why it’s found success and been able to consistently stay good. It might not be as flashy. But it’s been really solid, gotten recruits so the exposure is there and very consistent(only DePaul is a true black eye).

Nova obviously has done the heavy lifting in March. But most of the teams have been multiple times. Also, if we hold Nova winning against the league. The Big10 can’t win it all period these days.

You’re right that it doesnt have the same appeal for a prestigious school like St John’s. But the teams as a whole are doing great in the league.

I'd just like to point out that I quoted both of you in a conversation and you both replied to me at the exact same time (2:13pm). LOL. What are the odds of that?

You can fit in one more rant for us here. I love reading rants about it. It's cathartic because I feel like punching every Hokie fan that thinks its a positive that Young can be "Basketball Beamer!" and doesn't need AAU guys even though 98% of all prospects worth a damn pass through AAU

One of my biggest issues with VT's Athletic Dept lately is just the small time-ness of it. It's a $100MM+/yr enterprise and a significant driver of the academic side of the school, yet can't escape the narrow-mindedness SWVA with how it is run.
We just got out of the best 3 year run in program history. Who cares if Buzz was building his own brand, not wearing VT colors, or had an ear to the ground for other jobs? We were winning, the team played hard and was fun to watch, and Cassell was packed. In 5 years, he did what we all thought was unthinkable. Instead of learning from that and investing in a real coach, we went the small-time, folksy, SWVA path, and hired a guy with SWVA ties because we don't think he'll leave. Our AD prioritizes the folksy guy who we know won't leave over winning. That is a problem to me. It's like we're taking zero advantage of what Buzz did for us and are falling back into life of fake performance ceilings 80% of our fanbase is convinced of.
The money we 'saved' hiring Mike Young is going to be worth nothing when we lose the revenue of 10-12 sellouts a year when we're selling out twice or 3x a year.
Football and basketball pay for everything, but you'd have zero idea given the way both are being managed. Not committing to recruiting is going to crush both programs and will set us back drastically. I'm a HC member, and given we're not spending even all the money on FB support staff that we've got available tells me that leadership doesn't see it as a problem, which makes that very challenging to reconcile my donations.

Doesn't matter how bad Fuente recruits, you guys have the mental edge in the football rivalry (if you can call it that anymore).

I'm not too worried about beating UVA in football. We should do that every year. Unfortunately, for the bulk of our fanbase, 'beating UVA and making a bowl' is as good of a season as you can ask for. I swear 90% of the redneck fans would be totally fine with 8-5 seasons in perpetuity because "back in my day, we used to lose to VMI." Fuente is a great coach to get a bunch of 8-5 seasons, just good enough to not get fired.

There is no killer instinct in our fanbase, or our athletic dept. which is why we struggle to fundraise, and are incapable of winning anything major.

Pitino going to UC would not only be huge for them, but for the AAC as a whole. Kelvin Sampson, Rick Pitino, Danny Hurley and Gregg Marshall is a great top 4 for that league. Ron Hunter at Tulane was a good hire as well. And Penny at Memphis looks like a great hire one year in. Could really push to being a top 4 league if this comes to fruition.

Yeah he hasn't done all that well. Made the tournament a couple years ago but that was with Browns players.

I'd freakin hire him. It's tough to find a proven winner with name brand recognition that can get it at the highest levels. Roll the dice.
