Depends on who Cincy hires. Have no clue who they'd go after...

I'll hold off judgment unless wishful thinking like Rick Pitino or by a miracle Bob Huggins walks through the doors.

A positive is the recruiting should already be better.

Beyond never having nice things, VT seems to have the only athletic department in the country that just doesn't get recruiting matters.

Fuente's recruiting has been an absolute joke and is just getting worse, and now this fuck of a hire (who hates recruiting AAU) is potentially bringing his Wofford staff? You can't even make this shit up. We couldn't ignore recruiting more if we tried.

Whit may be on a short leash if the two cashcow sports continue toward mediocrity.

Maybe Whit plans to buy some players with the money saved from Buzz to Young salary.

All I know is the new guy better be a fan of defense and at least make an attempt to advance in March. Single elimination or not, it'll be nice once in awhile. @ericd7633

It'll be good until he ( or god forbid a 'she' ), losing to the likes of fucking Harvard, St. Josephs, Nevada, Iowa, etc... Waste of my time and their time.

Just do the logical thing and one that makes sense and just hire Pitino.

Cronin to UCLA seems like a horrible fit on paper

If UCLA fans hated Howland's style, they're absolutely going to loveeee Cronin!

Jon Scheyer in play at St John's. Just feels like he graduated. Only 31.

would be a horrific hire, imo

Scheyer has only been a college assistant for five years and he's only been a first chair assistant for a year.

he's not even qualified to be the HC at UNCG, Elon or High Point U yet

I don't get it either. Mully had them trending in the right direction. Their expectations must be way too high because to me, St. John's is not a good job. The Big East is dead. Being in the City is not appealing. The talent that's actually in NYC is overrated but they still talk about it like NY is turning out pro after pro like its still the 70s or 80s. I don't know what they think they can achieve. To me, their height is probably what Seton Hall is right now, which is pretty good to be honest. But its gonna take time (took Willard years to SH there).

Mullin was brutal at St. John’s. Easily the worst coach in the league.

A league that is far from dead by the way.

agreed with you about Mullin and the Big East

@wildturkey is right about the St. John's job, though. It sucks. Going to go out on a limb and say that St. John's facilities are horrific and NYC players don't play in NYC anymore.

Yeah 100% regarding SJU. It’s been a fading job for a while now. Doesn’t have the appeal of recruits now a days.

Will be interesting to see who they get and how well that coach recruits. The talent pool is great, but gotta find a way to make the opportunity for them attractive.

It's dead in terms of being nationally relevant. You're not selling recruits on the value of playing in the Big East for the great St. Johns/Georgetown rivalry and the other rivalries don't exist anymore since half the schools left the conference. The Big East went from a premiere basketball conference to just another mid-major. That's what I mean by its dead.

Agree there. I like Cronin overall, but that fit is gonna be rough. It's apparent though that UCLA just needed to get a name. They went down their list until someone finally said yes. I understand it but I don't foresee smooth sailing in that relationship

John Brannen from Northern Kentucky would be an excellent fit for Cincy

But that is all wrong still. You’re right about St John’s but nothing else is accurate.

BE this year had 1 down year. Otherwise it’s been a clear top 4 conference(many times higher). It will be loaded again next year. None of the premiere teams have taken a hit in recruiting(even Georgetown is starting to hit it hard again).

Nova(obviously), Marquette, Seton Hall, Providence, Xavier and Butler have had absolutely no issues getting recruits.

Since the BE has ended Providence, Seton Hall and the newbies have proven they can consistently compete year after year.

DePaul is DePaul we all know that one.

Maybe they ain’t selling recruits on the old rivalries, but they are being sold on something.

Since the league formatted to it's it's current state, the Big East has finished 4th best(2014), 3rd best (2015), 4th best (2016), 3rd best(2017), 2nd best(2018) and this year it was the 5th best conference. It was a down year for the conference, I think everyone would agree. But it's still been a top 4 league most years and averages out to that.

How much of that is boosted by Villanova though? The Big East doesn't have a slew of contenders it once did and isn't getting national recognition because of that (some of that might be its poorly promoted TV deal with Fox Sports). You get more spotlight in other conferences now. They have teams that can get to the tournament but I just don't believe that they collectively raise the profile enough to where by just being a Big East school is enough of a selling point over conferences like the ACC, Big10, SEC, and maybe even the Big12. There was a time when it was, but its not anymore. You're right saying its dead its too much hyperbole by me, something I'm guilty of some times. But what I'm getting at is that Big East aspect isn't a strong selling point anymore and in regards to St Johns in what I was referencing, they can't rely on that. And it seems like their expectations comes across that they still think they're St. Johns in the Big East in 1986 or 1996.

I don't think anybody would argue it's as good as is was in the late 2000's and early 2010's. But that was also a league with 16 teams. But nobody was that good back then including the ACC.

And some of it is Nova, but Xavier has also been a 1 and 2 seed and made an E8. Butler has been good except this year, Providence has been good except this year and I think Seton Hall has made the tournament 4 years in a row. Also Georgetown has been bad by their standards in this new league. If they can get back to what they were that's even better. And Marquette has gained traction under Wojo. It's a good league, but yes, definitely not what it was.

I get ya regarding the tv stuff. Obviously they don’t have the espn backing. But the league has still had a strong selling point using their basketball only roots. They have teams that rate really well in attendance. The main stays play in NBA markets. That’s. Why it’s found success and been able to consistently stay good. It might not be as flashy. But it’s been really solid, gotten recruits so the exposure is there and very consistent(only DePaul is a true black eye).

Nova obviously has done the heavy lifting in March. But most of the teams have been multiple times. Also, if we hold Nova winning against the league. The Big10 can’t win it all period these days.

You’re right that it doesnt have the same appeal for a prestigious school like St John’s. But the teams as a whole are doing great in the league.

lol, the Big Ten hasn't won a natty since 2000. that's absurd considering how good that league usually is

Pitino wants the St. John's job it appears

if the two sides can agree on the money, St. John's would be dumb to not hire him.

I don't like Pitino, he's a sleazeball, but St. John's has nothing to lose here
