Now that I think about it, you're correct in that I think they did pursue him awhile back. I think it's a pipe dream.

Yep. At some point a guy has to decide if he is willing to cash the checks even though the job is a worse job. "I may get beat more often at this new place but I've got to do it so my kids/grandkids will be taken care of financially."

Don Haskins passed on many, many lucrative offers over the years to stay in the desert. Said they weren't a fit for him even if the money was a lot better. Even though his family wasn't destitute by him staying, his family wasn't as well taken care of as they could have been.

Kind of surprising. I don't know how well his coaching & recruiting abilities will translate in the SEC, but I have far more confidence in him than I ever had in Avery Johnson.
