Still seems like hyperbole to say Young's season was "not even close".
the age thing is the biggest argument for Young if you ask me.

a huge difference coming into the NBA as a 19 year old, compared to a guy like Steph who came in after multiple college seasons.

Trae Young was 20.

Despite 2 more years in college, Curry was only 1.5 years older.

If you want to compare Young's second year stats to Curry's first, then I don't have a problem with that. It would be more than fair. And maybe Trae's stats will be better.

But anything past a casual glance at point and assist totals and it is very clear that Steph's rookie season was better than Young's.

And my original post was in response to @bksballer89 saying Young's rookie year was better than Curry's.

It wasn't. But I sincerely hope his second season is much better than Curry's second season.

OK, but guess what.....point and assist totals matter in evaluating his rookie season.

No he wasn't. Not even close.

Steph's efficiency was off the charts for a rookie guard. he averaged 17.5, 4.5 REB, 5.9 Ast, 1.9 steals, 3 TO on 46.2% from the field, 43.7% from 3 and 88.5% from the line. All while sharing the back court with ball stopper Monta Ellis.

Trae young has more points and assists, but he is shooting 41.7% from the field, 33.6% from 3, 82.1% from the line with 4 TOs a game and he isn't as good defensively.

Trae Young has had a really good rookie season, but let's not get carried away.

Efficiency matters.

You're right.

I'm probably just spoiled and overreacting to the Young numbers post AS break which is 25 PPG, 9 APG, and 4.6 RPG on 45% from the field and 40% from 3.

Turnovers are still at 4 per game but his 2nd half been ridiculous

Not when you fail to view them in the context of a player's efficiency.

It is why everyone has grown numb to Westbrook's stat production. His efficiency sucks.

Curry's efficiency was a lot better. Their assist to TO ratios are almost identical. Curry had a lot more win shares and much better defensive numbers too. Offensive production was close. But the little things that lead to winning games all point in Curry's favor.

And that isn't taking anything away from Young. He has been fantastic. But let's pump the breaks a bit in calling this kid a future superstar. He can get there, but he has a long way to go still.

Pretty sure Curry was similar. Maybe not quite as good on the raw numbers.

I remember him playing only like half the game for the first month or two, then he had some truly epic games the second half.

not a surprise Curry was more efficient as well. Its pretty obvious Trae Young is the #1 option for the Hawks. Ellis scored 25 a game that season for GSW and was the Warrior's #1 option

Also, Curry shot less 3's per game. Young is shooting an extra 3 a game compared to Curry. Shooting less 3's and having a guy to draw the opposing defenses attention will always improve a player's efficiency.

Also

Curry played over 36 minutes per game. About 5 minutes more per game than Young has.

Not sure I clled him a superstar. Only comment you made I disagree with was saying something like Curry was far better as a rookie. Not sure anyone said Young was better, but more points/assists per game and as you mentioned similar assist/TOs makes them at least comparable. And, clearly, Young has been much improved in his second half...though maybe Curry was as well?

You didn't.

This whole conversation started because @bksballer89 said Young's rookie season was better than Curry's and called him a future superstar.

Curry was better. We agree on that. BK agrees he got a little carried away too. Now let's not make this a 5 page thing because there really isn't anything to debate.

Shocker.

I could post:

"Grass is green"

And you would disagree and call names for it.

You can't even look at one of my posts without getting emotional. Do yourself a favor and just block me since you can't begin to be rational in any conversation with me.

And being "the guy" as Young is will always improve their ability to post more points and assists.

First 2 days were good I thought.

Your take is right though. Top heavy bracket should lead to some great clashes down the road.
