I think it's an 8 man bully. And I think the 4th outfielder isn't on the team yet.
And that 4th outfielder will probably be about as exciting as Maybin and Joyce, only he'll require resources to be traded for him.

Or not.

Could be a FA signing

Only free agent outfielders I know of right now are Denard Span, Austin Jackson, Matt Holliday and Jose Bautista. Are you thinking about more guys jettisoned from other camps?

Yup.

I could see Joyce breaking with the club, but I don't think it's likely.

Of course. He was the top remaining performer. Why should he continue to get a chance?
The bitterness runs deep in this one.

Have fun he will not.

Does Conner Joe make it over Pablo Sandoval?
Considering how late in spring this trade was made, I would think he has a roster spot. But does he fill the 4th outfielder spot or take Sandoval or Solarte/Hanson's spot?
I'm telling you, these moves feel like the FO is bored and wants to keep doing things. What's the point?

I actually like the upside with this one, re: your bored comment. FZ saw something in Joe last year and wanted him back. High OBP/power guy from the right side of the plate. Giants are very LH-power heavy. If he can fill the PENCE role with some upside, that would be great.

I don't think this affects Solarte/Hanson. I think this directly affects Pablo, and honestly I'd be okay with it. Either that or go with a 12-man staff and drop Melancon.

The bored comment is more over the constant movement of players, most of which seem to make little sense. It feels like too much. Many of them are mere duplicates of earlier acquisitions, not improvements. As I mentioned in another post, Joe's minor league numbers do look good but so did a few other guys picked up on minor league deals. I'm good with Joe at the expense of Maybin (if it comes down to that) but I doubt that will happen. I'd much rather have Sandoval on the team because he's actually hit well in the big leagues in his career. It feels like Maybin lasts this long because he's decent to good defensively and teams seem to think he'll still make good on his prospect status from 10+ years ago.

I just don’t see Hanson making the team. Dude is a stud athlete, but is still WAY too raw at this point in his career to warrant keeping around.

I do think this move locks Maybin into the opening 25, though.

SP: Bum, Sammy, DRod, Dutch, PomPom
RP: Smith, Watson, Moronta, Bergen, Dyson, Stratton, Gott, Vincent
C: Posey, Rivera
Inf: Belt, Panik, Crawford, Longoria, Joe, Solarte
OF: Mac, Dugger, Parra, Maybin

Maybin, Vincent, Rivera and Solarte will need 40-spots. MM, Sandoval, Okert and Hanson are pretty obvious and easy casualties in this scenario. I am not 100% that MM gets eaten, though. That is a BIG eat.

Maybe they keep Sandoval and give up on Bergen instead?

Some of us get bitter on roster moves, others get bitter during regular season game threads.

That's a fair call.

Athough, to be more precise: some of us get ANGRY during game threads.

Oh the irony of those two statements. Get rid of the younger raw athlete who's yet to show his potential for the older raw athlete who has yet to show his potential. I know I'm riding hard on Maybin. I just have a really hard time understanding how he's a better fit for the 25 man roster than many of the other guys the team has sent down or plans to send down and/or designate for assignment.

CF.

I have no idea if Gerber is a passable CFer. But he is really the only guy who had any chance who was cut who could play CF (outside of Ferguson)

I'm not as convinced as the rest of you about Melancon being gone by OP. I do think he's on the bubble but I don't know if they will drop him quite yet.
