Hell of a career!!!
Glad to see ichiro go out on his own accord rather than being cut because he wasn’t going to make it to the roster after Japan.

No surprise, Ichiro hangs it up after a fantastic baseball career. No doubt it was a tough decision for him to make. What a way to go out too. Playing his last pro game in his home country. As much as some (including me) blasted him after returning to Seattle, his career and impact on MANY baseball players and fans will have fond memories of Ichiro, the future HOF'r. You go Ichee !! :thumb:

Good for him.

I genuinely believe this was the best move for him to have this kind of send off. Thankfully I was wrong when I said I didn't think he'd retire after this game.

Truly one of the greats and an incredibly interesting personality.

I will just say congrats for all Ichiro has done and slash did. He is the one athlete that I can ever remember, with his actual track record, and have so many detractors nationally or locally.

One thing that really bothered me about Ichiro is he never did interviews in english. I remember watching one game and they had a mic on first and he was going back and forth with the first baseman in pretty clear english. I heard one of the biggest reasons he did use one is because he has so many more fans in Japan than he does over here.

I totally agree. Even this last one where he announced his retirement, it was through a translator. I'd prefer if he done a portion of it in English. Dude knows English, so would love to hear that from him.

Here's a look back at some of Ichiro's cool moments.

Walk-off off of Mo. The crotch chop was awesome.

Ichiro's laser beam to 3B. He has a cannon.

Single season hits record

I think it was more he was more guarded because of how incredibly famous he was/is and didn’t want that mess up during an interview. It’s kind of like how Russell Wilson is robotic with everything he says, Ichiro had an image. That’s my belief on it.

It will suck seeing Felix go. Yeah, the last few years have been disappointing but when he was renegotiating his deal way back when he kept saying "I love it here. Sign me up for life!" Seems like every other superstar that came up with the org couldn't wait for the first opportunity to get out of town.

This is my favorite Ichiro story

Former first baseman Mike Sweeney, who got close to Ichiro in Seattle, tells one about getting a call from an old teammate who’d had an off-day in New York. You’re not gonna believe this, the guy began. He’d brought along his wife and they walked through Central Park, thrilled to be together in such a serene place. Far off in the distance, at a sandlot field with an old backstop that looked leftover from the 1940s, they saw a guy playing long toss. The big leaguer did the quick math and figured the distant stranger was throwing 300 feet on the fly. Curious, he walked closer. The guy hit balls into the backstop, the powerful shotgun blast of real contact familiar to any serious player. He became impressed, so he got even closer, close enough to see.

The man working out alone in Central Park was Ichiro.

I read Tony Gwynn was the same way in this regards as well. I read he'd be driving home after dinner with the family or something and just get the urge to stop at a batting cage because something was bothering him about his swing at that moment.

I just remember in that 2001 season.
Ichiro steps in, hits a routine grounder to SS, and beats the throw.

The look on that SS's face, like WTF just happened.

Did you see the preseason throw he made from LF to 3B? Healy had the same WTF reaction. He’s 45!

I love Ichiro, but I'm always annoyed with playing these real games overseas. It could've been an exhibition game.
