I'd be happy if Michigan was even 55/45 in run/pass plays called though I'd rather be closer to 52/48. Michigan had pass plays on only 40.33% of their overall plays (105th in FBS). Michigan's only been above 100th once (60th in 2015 when they threw 46.86% of the time). Michigan's running game was very meh though.
I'd be fine running more than passing if we had the running game to do that. If we had an elite college RB, then OK. But when we only have a good college RB, you can't weigh the entire success of their offense on their success. As good as Higdon was, he wasn't a guy who was going to go out and put a game on his back to win it. We have to use the talent we have, and it's really heavily weighted at WR and QB.

More excellent news
Jim Harbaugh unpacks direction of offense under Josh Gattis

"The biggest difference people will see will be the tempo," Harbaugh said on Monday about the offense moving forward. "It's more up-tempo. Less huddle. I think that'd be (the biggest change in a Gattis-led offense)... We’re all working together. His style of offense, he’s really good at explaining it and showing us how to coach it. How’s it been for me? It’s been really good. Really enjoying it. Really learning a lot.”

Gattis, who has made multiple media appearances but has yet to speak to reporters, has detailed his visions of the Wolverines' offense in the past.

“When you look at my track record over the past few years, it’s how well we spread the ball around. How much diversity we have on the offensive side,” Gattis said on the Harbaugh's Podcast earlier this year. “I think that’s what you mean when you say you’re balanced. It’s not so much, ‘Hey, we’re gonna be 50-50 run,’ but we’re going to be balanced and run when we need to run, we’re going to throw when we need to throw. We’re going to be balanced in the number of touches that we distribute among our playmakers. Because ultimately, if we can get our best playmakers the ball, we’re going to be in a position to be successful.”

Wasn't it "excellent news" when they hired Pep Hamilton, too?

This guy is on to something.

Nussmeyer too.

UM fans are starting to become like Lions fans. Offseason acquisitions are turning into the crowning moments of the program.

I just laugh at the overwhelming majority of these fans. Until it is shown Harbaugh relinquished control of the offense — I fully expect to see UM running the same things.

At least UM is making it appear like they are making changes. MSU isn’t even pretending to make improvements.

Yeah — until we see actual changes, it doesn’t mean much.

Also agree with MSU. It is bizarre that he wouldn’t, instead, opting to just change the coaching positions around

If you have some of the paying your coaches the least amount in football and nobody is trying to steal them, that should tell you everything you need to know about their abilities.

Nothing is like being a lions fan. How dare you compare Michigan to the Lions. The Lions haven't spent 6 decades sucking for you to compare a team with 3 10 win seasons in 4 years to them.

Nussmeyer too.
I was excited for Nussmeyer. Honestly, one of the more disappointing aspects of those 8 dark years. On paper, that was a great hire.

There are two exciting aspects of this recent hire, 1. That Harbaugh says he's handing over the reigns to this guy (which he's never done in his coaching career) and 2. An offensive coordinator that sounds like he wants to actually get the ball in the hands of the talent we're recruiting rather than fullbacks running up the middle.

He can say he is going to do it all he wants but will it actually happen. Last year Patterson was allowed to run more but as the year went on, he got reeled in more and more into staying in the pocket.

The only things we should be caring about is victories ... especially victories over ohio state.

We've had a lot of victories....The only thing we're missing at this point is that elusive win over OSU. In 3/4 years, a win over OSU would have at least won us the division. We're spoiled at this point. We forget what it was like just 5 years ago. We forget than in the previous 15 years Michigan only won 10 games 4 total times. Harbaugh has done it 3/4 years. I'm pretty hopeful that some offensive adjustments are just what the doctor ordered because that's the ideal situation - right? We've failed in the past because we've had a HC who won't adjust. Hoke wouldn't wear a headset. Rich Rod forced Threet to run a spread option and lost Mallet because he was going to force the same. Lloyd wouldn't adjust to the spread offenses of the time. Harbaugh, after last season, realized he needed to change and seems to have done so.

Meanwhile, Danotnio is digging his own grave by doing what has failed so many coaches in the past and stubbornly staying with what he knows; keeping friends on staff. Changing nothing.

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
The point was not to proclaim those "ifs" as victories but as an example of a final hurdle left to overcome; one that started well before Harbaugh got here. I wrote more, so you should read the rest of my comment above that I added in an edit. To summarize, Harbaugh is winning a lot of games, something we weren't doing, and has shown an ability and willingness to adjust; which is refreshing. I can say with certainty that MSU fans would rather their team be where ours is now than where theirs is. And the same is probably true of most B10 teams.

I'm not a Harbaugh hater ... I'm just a results man ... we HAVE to beat ohio state. I am really pissed of that we didn't beat that Suburban dude.

We just have to keep winning, keep getting recruits. Results against OSU will come, especially with a coach willing to acknowledge failure and attempt to adjust to them. Can you imagine how hopeless MSU fans feel right now?
