The Giants would be foolish to draft any QB in the first 5 rounds. There isn’t a QB in this draft class that will ever take an intented snap as a starter. Take a d and o lineman and punt this year until next year when that QB draft will be the best of all time.

Isn't that what you'd expect from a 24-YO QB who's started a total of 40 games in college & the pro's combined? Wouldn't it have been dumb to throw more at him than he's ready for?

The point is that in the limited capacity they've used him so far, he's actually done very well. Maybe not like Roethlisberger's 2nd year, but he did well above average for a first-round QB.

And he has a reputation as a hard worker, so I'd expect him to improve upon that success as he develops into a veteran QB (which usually happens around the 3rd or 4th year; see Drew Brees).
yes and no, not from the #3 pick tbh

i disagree, murray intrigues me, raw talent

haskins im not in on

lock has the arm, but struggled against better comp, could be good

i really kinda think daniel jones has a good shot

i like clayton thorson alot, he was talked about as a round 1-2 pick and seems to keep sliding, but for no reason......

not in on grier, finley,rypien

jackson is raw but oozing talent, he reminds me so much of josh allen, but somehow isnt a top ten prospeect

I think Haskins is probably about on par with Trubisky coming out of college. He looks like an NFL guy but you're really going to need to see him get some starts in the NFL before he can become anything consistent.

I think if the Giants would take him and give him at least one year under his belt it would really go a long way, maybe two, not sure what the Giants plan is with Eli. All depends on this year. Overall the QB class will be much better overall but it doesnt mean there will be a franchise QB from that list, just more to choose from.

I think it'd be silly to pass on Haskins.

The Ohio State product was the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2018 and the 2019 Rose Bowl MVP. The 6-3, 220-pounder tossed 50 touchdown passes and threw for 4,831 yards for the Buckeyes last year, both school records. Only six players in NCAA history have fired 50 touchdown passes or more in a season.

My guess is that whoever drafts Haskins is going to throw him to the wolves about halfway into year 1 because whoever drafts him probably isnt making the playoffs.

But not at that high of a draft pick. He's a great athlete and if he's willing to learn to play QB in the NFL he certainly could. But will he try to learn or will he insist on doing it his way and end up like Vince Young or Jamarcus Russell.
This is a pretty good demonstration of how little you actually know about Haskins.

He's a significantly smarter person than VY or Russell, and at the combine this sentiment was echoed by anyone who sat down with him. He's also always been a student of the game and has never once showed the propensity for being stubborn when it comes to being coached.

Everything else you said is basically unfounded.

This is from Shawn Springs, for OSU and NFL player who began working with Dwayne when he was in middle school: But it was more than just about his arm. Springs said that he and Haskins began watching tape when Haskins was an eighth-grader, and Haskins was uncanny in seeing the adjustments he needed to make even before Springs could tell him.

“College concepts, he can get that in his sleep,” Springs said. “You can talk to Dwayne like he’s a pro.

“It was like this kid was born to play quarterback. This kid just soaks it up. If you told him something, he would listen. And he’s smart and he works and works and works.”

From his high school coach: “He’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever been around as far as perfecting his craft,” he said. “I’ve never had a guy who has gone hours and hours until he got it right.”

Other quotes:
“He was not one of those jocks who walked around school acting like he was the best,” said Dr. Jerry Boarman, Head of School at Bullis and Haskins’ faculty adviser. “Dwayne was totally devoted to football, his family, his academics and his faith.”

Haskins excelled academically at Bullis. Boarman said he took several Advanced Placement classes and still had a non-weighted grade point average of about 3.9. Haskins is a Scholar-Athlete at Ohio State as a journalism major.

It's just that Murray's height of 5'10" is exceptionally short for a QB. Russell Wilson is probably the best comparison for his potential path to success in the NFL. With that said, the Russell's of the world are few and far between, and Wilson does have 1" on him at 5'11", and every extra inch of height really starts to matter a lot in that territory, IMO. Not to mention the fact that Wilson is listed at 215 lb to Murray's 195. Regardless of how elusive Murray is, getting smoked by NFL linemen and linebackers at full speed when weighing under 200 is going to be rough. He definitely needs to add a few pounds to his frame in the weight room without compromising his elusiveness. Wilson also had 2 great seasons and 2 good seasons coming out of college. whereas Murray was irrelevant until his senior year.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the guy. He clearly wants to do well in the NFL, and he has talent to work with if he puts in the effort. I just can't see a 5'10" QB doing very well in the pros. The best NFL QB who was 5'10" or under thus far that I can recall was Doug Flutie, and he was mostly an average novelty in the NFL and experienced most of his pro level success in the CFL. So, Murray would be making serious history to become a franchise QB worthy of a top-end 1st round pick. I feel like he's going to end up regretting not going with baseball instead down the line. Just my two cents.

I've spoken against RW too many times because I'm biased against <6'3" or taller QBs, but he's made me a believer...he never will be a prototypical pocket passer, but he wins games. FWIW...Brees is barely 6' if he is so I'm willing to let this kid flame out 1st before I throw any dirt on his playing career.

Not sure what you don't like about Haskins that Jones, Thorson, and Jackson have.

I'm not throwing dirt on his career, but I don't think I could justify spending a top 10 pick on him.

Name 1 other good QB that is 5'10( or shorter).

Maybe I was implying that you were throwing dirt on his career...not intentional.

Trust me...I'm 6'3" myself and have always had and still do have a bias against QBs shorter than me, but now after RW, I'm more willing to let it play out.

I don't think I posted anything in this thread before my previous post, so you weren't implying anything. I just see all this talk about Drew Brees and RW, which makes it worthwhile to spend a top pick. Spending a top 10 pick on him is like me betting $10,000 on Cleveland to win the Superbowl.... It could work out, but I'd like them to show me they can at least make it there once first.

Oh...smart play.

I will say, there's not a whole lot of difference in a 6' QB and a 5'-10 guy imo...both are going to struggle to see over the OL and will need to find passing lanes vs throwing over the top...and because they get more opportunities obviously, more taller guys fail at the position so that's enough to say it's not all about height.

That said, no I wouldn't spend a top 10 pick on him either.

Which I think is fine. Other than Couch and Carr I cannot think of QBs I believe failed because they played too soon.

I'm sure there is an argument for RG3. Succeeding the wrong way seems like the worst way to develop.

There would be an argument for Gabbert (who definitely wasn't ready) but I dont think he ever had a great ceiling. Bradford might be in the same category.
