He'll be the last big free agent before the CBA is up and the strike kills the game.

EDIT: Forgot Trout was up the same year.

Do we even have a computer big enough to calculate how much Trout should get? I mean, set aside what teams can or will pay. Just put a number on him, when Machado gets 10/$300.

Trout will be 29 when this goes down...I'ma say 9/$400

The baseball draft needs to go NBA route and have a draft lottery plus the MLBPA needs to demand players start getting paid earlier in their careers. I mean every single thing baseball players are bitching about right is fixed instantly if they agree to a salary cap but they’d also be dumb as hell to agree to a cap.

They already did.

They neeed the floor and anti tanking measures

And either 4 years mlb service time or you do free agency by the moment they are signed

Sale already signed his Uber team friendly deal, I can’t see him taking anything less than market value

Out of all the pending Red Sox FA, he's the only one I see potentially doing a team friendly deal

When did they go to a lottery?

The flip side of Bogaerts is that his defense might be slipping...dWAR is down a bit each year after peaking at 1.0 when he was 22.
That was actually the year of his peak total single season WAR so far, but I would be willing to bet that won't be his career high. You have to look at him in a bit different way if he moves to 3B, though.

A strike is coming. Looks unavoidable now. Too many good players this winter have had to settle for minor league contracts.

But I don't think they will strike before the current collective bargaining agreement expires (2021). So we should have two more seasons of uninterrupted play.

Yup.

We came back after they cancelled the World F*cking Series. Those assholes know we'll always come back.

We are in the over-40 crowd which is flooded with baseball addicts. I'm not sure if there is as many baseball junkies among the millennials and Generation X. And the last work stoppage was 25 years ago. Alot of those old dog baseball junkies that kept the sport going have died off. The owners better tread lightly. Baseball might not bounce back as easily this time. Maybe they can bring Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa back. LOL.

Well shit you took my response. I think baseball can survive another strike, but it is hard to be as optimistic during the steroid era when there is a commissioner who keeps telling new fans baseball the game is so hard for them to watch that he has to keep making changes.

Xander hitting .315/.400/.575 with a 150 wRC+, 1st among shortstops (unless you count Bregman and his 252 innings at short). 4th among MLB players in WAR behind only Trout, Bellinger and Yelich. He's having a season on par with some of Nomar's best (Nomar had a 157 wRC+ in 1999 and 154 in 2000).
