David Montgomery forced 100 missed tackles rushing this season, almost double the next closest competitor in the Big 12.

I like this guy a lot. Wouldn't be upset if the Lions got him. There is no guarantee that K. Johnson can stay healthy. He was injured in college and now his rookie year with the Lions.

Book it as their 1st round selection but not at #8.

Fire Quinn IMMEDIATELY thread will go up from me the second they do this.
Same as the one I started for Mayhew after he drafted Tomlinson.

If we took Devin White in the first and Byron Murphy in the 2nd. That would go a long way to making this a championship caliber squad.

No way Murphy lasts to 43. I would be shocked if he did.

I agree but that's a big drop for Murphy, who is considered by some as the top CB in this draft, even into the top of 2nd round. Never say never that it couldn't happen.

BQ/MP may look at Hockenson as the value pick over what remains after top 7 picks are in the books. If they draft Hockenson as their 1st round pick I doubt it will be at #8. I would think that if a trade(s) down into 14-17 range were made available then it might be more realistic.

It takes time to develop CB's and Murphy/Baker are both smaller than what you'd think MP wants and Greedy being so slender may give them pause to draft him when you can find similar physical traits of a CB in the 2nd round and beyond.

I just wouldn't be shocked to see BQ/MP draft a player like TE Hockenson or even WR D.K. Metcalf to help Stafford. It was you who had reminded me that an NFL team is built around their franchise QB.

I am not saying that's what I'd like to see transpire because I'm 80% defense player being drafted first.

He didn't miss that many games in CFB it's the history of 3 confirmed shoulder separations (one coming out of H.S.) and two others during CFB off-season.

it looks like a couple games missed in 2017 season because Auburn played in the SEC CG and then their bowl games each of those years. I think they might have missed the bowl games 1 season in his 3 year span but I'm not positive.

I don't see enough physicality from him once he's made contact with a defender to consistently drive through them and gain an extra 2-3 yards like I see from RB's Holyfield, Jacobs, Sanders, Harris, Ozigbo, Ollison.

My biggest fear is that once Devin White is drafted, assuming that another team drafts him, there's not another player similar to his physical traits of speed, build, strength and ability to thump. I'm sure there are other LB that would fit the scheme of MP but White checks all the boxes minus his cons of misreads, wrong angles, over/under pursue and numerous others that I won't get into. He's damn near Jarrad Davis and most on this board are highly disappointed in his slow growth in positive upward progress.

It's a double edge sword possibility awaiting to happen drafting Devin White and having him paired with J. Davis. White may very well progress quickly and by having that combo may possibly benefit J. Davis. It's extremely difficult to know in advance what will happen until you're factually embedded with those two as a combo LB package. imo.

Lions draft prospect of the day: UMass WR Andy Isabella

Today’s offering is a speed demon at wideout with some size limitations.

Andy Isabella, WR, UMass

Height: 5-foot-8.75 inches

Weight: 187 (from Senior Bowl weigh-in)

Games watched: Ohio 17 and 18, USF, Georgia, Mississippi State 17, Boston College, Senior Bowl and practices (in person)

Overview

One of the most productive wideouts in the FBS over the last three years, the diminutive speedster posted incredible yards per catch figures for the Minutemen. He shined against high-level competition when given the chance, notably torching Georgia for over 200 yards.

Lions draft prospect of the day: UMass WR Andy Isabella

Pros
  • Speed. Isabella is a world-class speedster who won high school state track titles over the likes of Browns Pro Bowl CB Denzel Ward. At the Senior Bowl, Isabella told me he’s been hand-timed in the 40-yard dash in 4.26 seconds, and he’s got documented laser timed runs at 4.33.
  • Strength for his size. Despite being short at just under 5-9, he’s surprisingly physical in his routes and strong at the catch point. It doesn’t translate as well in blocking, however.
  • Acceleration out of breaks. Isabella gets to top speed in two steps and shows the ability to explode out of breaks and cuts, both as a receiver on routes and with the ball in his hands.

Lions draft prospect of the day: UMass WR Andy Isabella

Cons
  • Catch radius. He’s a small target and doesn’t help himself with short arms and smallish hands. It’s especially noticeable on plays where the QB has to buy time or look for help beyond the initial read. Isabella doesn’t make himself a bigger target with the ability to make diving catches or leaping snags, something which quickly became apparent during Senior Bowl practices.
  • Economy of motion. He’s blessed with quick feet and loves to show them off, but it doesn’t always happen fast enough in routes. Especially in the slot, Isabella will often use 3 steps when 2 will do. It can throw off the timing and spacing of passing plays. This is a coachable fix.
  • Body catcher. It’s not all the time, but passes frequently get into his pads to complete the catch. He’s good at it and Isabella’s lack of arm length makes this less troublesome than it would for bigger receivers.

Isabella is more of an undersized outside deep threat than a traditional shifty slot receiver, though he can operate in that role, too. A good NFL offense will find ways to blend those two aspects together. He’s optimally used in bunch formations or off the line and attacking north-south right off the snap, or on quick-hitting plays where he gets the ball with space in front of him. Isabella is a good fit in the 4th round, if he lasts that long.

I agree that he's a fit for 4th round but at the earliest, imo, and more likely the round for us but he probably won't make it that far.

I read on multiple places that after the top 3 LB's. There is an absolute massive drop-off. Not my only reason for wanting White but if the strength of the draft is DL and CB. Even more reason to wait and hope a talented one falls to us in round 2. If Fat Pat is this defensive wizard that he was brought into be. He should easily find a way for Davis and White to play together and thrive.

He is tough I guess but I don't like his upright running style. That shit doesn't fly in the NFL. Reminds me of the old Titans RB Chris Brown I think his name was. Talented as hell but an upright runner who was always nicked up and only good for about 4-5 seasons.

I don't give a damn if it's between 20-30. If that dude takes a TE, ANYWHERE in the first round. The fire Quinn IMMEDIATELY thread is going up. The Lions were a couple narrow wins away from the #1 overall pick. Taking a TE in the 1st round would be complete Millenesque.

Yeah, it's is really hard to say. There are always like 3/4 guys who fall to the 2nd round and you are like "I saw them going mid-to late first in every mock draft."

Never know. CB's to tend to go early but there are good players who slip to the 2nd round in every draft.

The Draft Network's Trevor Sikkema mocked Georgia RB Elijah Holyfield to Round 4.
Holyfield (5'11/215) lands with the Atlanta Falcons as a potential Tevin Coleman replacement. As a committee back for the Bulldogs, Holyfield averaged 6.4 yards on his 159 carries (1,018 yards) while scoring seven touchdowns. While he was efficient, Holyfield doesn't have the total production of other running backs in his class, and he only had five receptions too. While there's a path to an early-down running role, his upside is capped unless he shows an ability to catch passes at the NFL Combine. For now, he's on the Day 2/3 borderline.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah "really likes" West Virginia LB David Long.
Jeremiah is scouting linebackers right now, and he hasn't been impressed with this year's linebacker class. In fact, he said he went hours before finding a linebacker he liked. At West Virginia, Long picked up 108 tackles (18.5 TFL) and made 7.5 sacks, which led to being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. After declaring, Long went to the Senior Bowl, but he didn't make a lot of noise so he's been flying under the radar during #DraftSZN.
