This has never made sense to me as MLB is still more popular than NBA. Maybe baseball fans just have better avenues from local affiliates and basketball fans centralize at espn.

Basketball has surpassed baseball in popularity and soccer will within the next 10 years. Baseball has been on a slide for a very long time. Their audience is dying off and young folks do not care for the sport.
Not true. MLB still gets watched more than nba. Polling people on just their favorite sport ignores what other sports they watch. MLB still trumps nba both in overall viewership and profits.
That is because they play 3 times as many games and in larger venues so yes overall attendance and revenues are larger but TV ratings for the NBA are higher, thus it is more popular. The NBA finals outdraws the World Series these days. Heck regualr season NBA games are outdrawing MLB playoff games.

The chart only goes back to 2013 but it has gotten worse since.

I always have said they need a pitch clock and limit the number of throws to 1st base. It would speed up the game and encourage more stolen bases and increase scoring. The game is far to slow and to inactive for modern tastes.
