I watched the first couple eps last night. Why is the study going all-in on this random kid they chose? They didn’t explain anything special about her except that she wouldn’t be missed. All that could have been skipped with a few throwaway lines about her having a rare blood type or being the grand daughter of one of the test subjects or something that makes her in the least bit special.
up until this point they were dealing with death row inmates. they wanted a young kid that wouldn't have anyone asking about them (granted, it seems a high majority of the death row inmates were either innocent or had their reasons to feel sympathetic towards)

I understand that. But for a government black operation, how hard would it really be to find 50 other kids who “won’t be missed”. Once “the Agent” requested an abort, it should have been a no brainer.

wouldn't it have still lead in the same direction to kill said agent that is still alive, as he knew about the program? i mean there's a lot of loose ends if you want to go down that angle. they killed the investigative reporter, but not his estranged wife. left his old military friend in the house without confirming the kill, etc, etc, it can be done with most shows, i didn't think that was a thread to pick at in this scenario. i guess i'm just enjoying it for what it is. many holes, but don't care yet.

I understand holes and loose ends. They are impossible to avoid. But huge glaring holes in the very establishment of the premise of the show is just lazy. Especially when they can be closed out with some simple throw away dialogue.

And I didn’t have much of a prob with the house not getting searched. The military guy and “the Agent” have a long history together. I suspect the military guy didn’t want to find the ex wife. The reporter was just collateral damage. Who cares about her (or that decision was not his).

i guess we're at odds with aborting once the agent was against it. once he went off mission, he was a goner, he's sticking around because you have to keep the story a live (granted, they could kill him, but he is essentially the only person the key to the story trusts). we'll see how it plays out, for the most part, i feel everyone is on board that this whole entire study was a bad idea, but things might be in motion for that not to matter.

it's really my only new show of the year, let me enjoy it for all it's faults.

Like I said, I am only watching this, Rookie and Manifest as far as new (network) shows are concerned. Of those 3, I think I like the Rookie the most because it is the most casual of the bunch, and I think it has the best chance to be a long-lived show. Passage is by far the worst of the 3.

I'm guessing they mapped out the ideas and had fantastic scenes drawn up for the fighting and eventual dialogue between humans and vampires. But, up until that happens, everything is just kind of drawn up as they go along. It's just filler to get to the good stuff.

Kind of happened to TWD when they were on the farm.

The Rookie is fun and quirky. I like Nathan Fillion and it's a really good role for him.
I'm guessing there will be sparks between him and the higher up supervisor (is she the police superintendent?).

I think she is just the precinct captain, but I am not certain.

I never really liked her on Fear, but in this role, her cleft pallet is really wigging me out...

I kinda assumed that season 1 of the show would cover the near future aspects, and that season 2, if the show gets renewed, would time jump to First Colony with Peter Jaxon, Alicia Donadio, et al.

That's the way they should do it, but I just cannot see a network TV show doing that.

Its going so slow too....I like it OK still, but depending on the next few weeks I may give up.

great books.

I never watched Wayward Pines after S1, but didn’t they do a cast reset after S1? That is essentially the same as a huge time jump.

Yeah, same here but I think you're correct. Not that it matters, but I think season 2 was essentially a different story in the same setting. This is one story set over 120 years. Judging by some of the changes I get the feeling they may do a small time jump with the same characters instead of the big one. Hope I'm wrong.

If it's even renewed.

MPG said this season is based on the first quarter of the first book.

as someone who isn't familiar with the source material, i'm digging it. enjoyed this past week as it was at the point where why didn't they just take shit over? i don't know the magic number of 12, but if they could already make everyone there do anything they wanted, think the cat missed his chance to strike. the fact they aren't going to kill them all now on 2 people seems dumb to me, since that many more have already died, but it is what it is.

I thought it was pretty freaking stupid that they bailed on the cleanse because of the girl and wife. They are convinced they are facing an ELE, but they put it off to save some kid they don’t know and a woman who was essentially dead anyway less than a day ago.

O...K...

i'm completely with you on that, i guess this is my new Zoo, but as it's not the summer and the only new show, i'm willing to give it some leeway...

Many of the same characters are still heavily involved in a time jumped season 2.

Especially Amy and Babcock.

Saying anything more would be significantly spoilery.

that's a curious angle i never thought about. i guess perhaps it was phrased wrong. i enjoy shitty b movies, zoo to an extent was a crazy wild show, but they went for it every time. i don't know if i ever hate watched something, if that's what you're going for. just the addition of the word hate turns me off. there's things i've watched and loved, i knew they were shit, but i loved them for what they were. i guess there's some crossover between things but, good or bad, if i'm sticking with a show, it's good on some level (to a point..)

Yeah, but some not for a long time. Besides mentions isn't Babcock not really back in the book until the end of the first book? At this pace that would be sometime in season 9.

At first I figured they would end the season right before the time jump. Now I worry they end it with a mass escape and a group of humans going on the run together. Unless there is new exciting stuff I think 6 more episodes is too much before the escape.
