Because that’s the Colbert way when it comes to FA DBs... Let’s fill the room with a truck load of cheap, mediocre to subpar depth players and hope that somebody rises from the scrap-heap.

Falcons To Release CB Robert Alford
Sadly why do I see him coming to the Steelers.

I've seen a lot of this player as you might imagine....both he and Trufant had terrible seasons in ATL...but they had next to no support from the pass rush. Both also had big cap hits, and with him being 30 already it was a fairly easy call to release him.

Alford should be a slot CB imo which PIT already has an equal, if not better, younger, and cheaper player in Mike Hilton. I don't see this happening...and I hope it doesn't. He's probably better than Sensabaugh but is that really saying much?

You nailed his MO, but Colbert HAS to dig deeper this time around. Alford is not that bad, but his cap hit was stronger than his play and at 30 y/o he was an easy cut for ATL.

AZ liked what they saw and nabbed him...he played outside, but imo should really be a slot guy.

Seriously what I saw in him also was nothing more than a slot DB and would make no sense to give him what the Cardinal gave him. I am glad they didn't go after him but was worried they would!

Still would not have paid him what AZ did! 3/22.5

You can do worse than Alford at CB...I know you remember Gay....remember earlier in his career he would be in good position defensively but couldn't make a play on the ball.

That's Robert Alford...right there in position a lot, but doesn't trust his ability to make a play on the ball, inevitably he'll grab, and often get busted for PI.

AZ...$13.5 G$...really? Makes you think they will keep Patrick Peterson to pair up with him.

Great comparison with Gay.
Without a doubt we could do worse, IE staying put with the current core the Steelers have but as we both agree he wasn't an upgrade at a worse cost. I was worried they would bring him in as the #2 and try and convince us fans that he was also.

I mentioned him near the top of the thread and I'm not totally thrilled with it, but a Steeler fan on Steelerdepot suggested Bradley Roby who is an upgrade and will be a FA...and also swapping Burnett who wants out anyway for Mathieu who I"m sure will be testing the FA market.

If they can't make a trade for a CB...as much as I like some of the incoming draft guys...Roby might be one of the better options.

Reminds me of Artie Burns... Athletic, but not very instinctive.

I think he might be a better prospect than Burns, but I don't think any of these 1st rd CBs are ideal for PIT short term...and I like Greedy Williams, Baker, and Murphy as much better prospects than what's on the roster.

@ATL96Steeler since you see enough of the Falcons what do you think of the Falcon's not tendering Brian Poole?
Doesn't rate well among the league but listening to local talk shows in Atlanta they seem to be up in arms over this.

Not that I think he could be fill a role in Pittsburgh since he compares close to what the Steelers already got but more surprised the Falcons did this.

If he's not good enough for the Falcons, he's certainly not good enough for the Steelers.

Totally agree. I was more curious to know why the local media in Atlanta is up in arms over him?
If there is one team with a worse secondary than the Steelers it is Atlanta.
