Most broken bones actually heal stronger before the break. I think??

Ok, the bone itself might heal stronger, but does the player continue to play at his high level? Physically, mentally, emotionally?

Ok, this is true, so change the question to...what are the odds he returns to his prime self?

Preston Smith is an underrated player who I would have no problem being a 49er. He gets a lot of pressure on the QB and has decent sack #'s. He's also pretty good in coverage. He's not flashy, but you can win a lot of games with these type of players.

He miles ahead of the edge players they signed last year

That goes without saying. Not only would he instantly improve the pass rush, he can also drop into coverage and hold his own.

The very last paragraph reads:

"The time has come for the 49ers to make the big splash. The shift from rebuild to win now has to be made."

IMO we're still one good draft class away before leaving 'rebuild'. If we start signing all these top FA's, then we'll be building with free agency. Granted, when this 'shift' occurs isn't going to be crystal clear, but we still have many spots to upgrade.

The Rams are good example for when you sign the top FA's, they excelled the prior year and made the play-offs, so then they got Peters, Suh, and Talib.

If the 49ers excel this coming season (could happen), then you add the top FA's. Cause if we excel this season, that means only a few holes to fill.

I'm not sure the top FA's fit with the 49ers like Bell in the sense that they don't feel the need to spend the money on a RB. The only top FA I could really say go spend the money would be edge rusher and maybe Thomas but his injuries do concern me.

Niners placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Gould today. Pretty much guarantees he's with the team next year.

And that didn't really work all that well. Peters got torched a lot this year and wasn't very good. Talib was out a good chunk of the offseason, and Suh wasn't much until the playoffs. Donald was the huge difference maker there. Their offense carried the day.

We always look hard at other team's FA's, but don't look enough at our own. A little high for Armstead no doubt, but i trust the coaches have MORE than enough "film", to make this decision.

If we have "more than enough cap space" to chase others, then why not Armstead? He has played specifically in this scheme so the Coaches don't have to project if he fits.

So here is Middlekauff's trade scenario:

  • 49ers receive the Giants' No. 6 overall pick and Beckham.
  • Giants receive the 49ers' No. 2 overall pick, 49ers' second-round pick (No. 36 overall), and the 49ers' first-round pick in 2020.

Middlekauff acknowledges again that this scenario would be the 49ers overpaying for Beckham. He doesn't believe the Giants will get a better offer but also notes that San Francisco is unlikely to give up that much for one player.

No, don't like this at all.

That's ridiculous. If anything, it's the Giants making that deal to move up to get a QB.....so they should be made to pay a lot more. More like our #2 for the Giants #6, OBJ, +....

No doubt.

This is unrealistic because Beckham while really good, isn't a franchise QB.
