Between the early departures for the draft and the transfers, what are we up to 20 kids leaving the team now? Something smells very rotten.

Almost all are grad transfers who will never see field other than special teams. Makes sense to transfer with their degree. 2 were to be closer to home for family medical issues and were kids who were never going to play, Darien and Faison. The kids going pro were no surprise, Miller was pretty much forgone conclusion before season, Sanders won't raise stock any unless he suddenly shaves .2 off 40 time, Mcgovern and Bates were assumed leaning before season, Givens was only surprise in that group. Only guy in portal that could have an impact on field is Wade and its no guarantee he wins starting job, thus his entry to portal to keep options open.

Kids leaving other than NFL are guys we wouldn't even be offering now. They got passed by on depth chart by yo0unger, more talented players. This happens when schools recruit like we do now, get used to it. You will see more attrition based on players getting passed by, the fact we try to graduate kids in 3-3.5 years to keep that promise of a degree and the transfer portal making it impossible to block kids from other schools unless there is a conference rule about transferring in conference. you don't see schools like Bama, OSU worrying about their players going pro or kids hwo won't contribute transeferring. Its business as usual if you want to get to elite.

As of a few days ago Alabama only had two players enter the transfer portal, that is a LONG ways from our 14 or 15.

Again, you are comparing Grad transfers to regular transfers. If we graduate kids in 3-3.5 years and they aren't going to play, they will move on. Bama isn't graduating kids in 3-3.5 years. They would have to sit a year to play. We have 4 scholarship players who are not graduates in transfer portal, 2 of them left for family medical issues, leaving 2 in portal who are underclassmen without a degree transferring/considering transferring.

From this list of names, who do you think was going to see the field other than JJ and he was passed by SHorter once Shorter got healthy

TE Danny Dalton
OT Alex Gellerstedt
CB Zech McPhearson
Saf. Ayron Monroe

CB Jabari Butler
DE Torrence Brown
WR Brandon Polk
WR Juwan Johnson

OT Sterling Jenkins
LB Jarvis Miller

If players like Gross-Matos and Parsons were transferring, I would worry

Not to mention Bama has been stacking top 5-10 classes for the past decade. It's not the same situation as PSU, who has only recently been a power in recruiting. When you start bringing in top 5-10 classes after a period of getting 20-30 ranked classes, some of those guys are going to get passed up and pushed out, just the way it is, you're absolutely right. Only guys in the portal that I would even be slightly concerned about are Wade and McPhearson. McPhearson would have been nice veteran depth but I can't fault him for pursuing other options. And like you said, Wade isn't going anywhere if he competes and wins a starting job.

Lamont Wade pulls his name out of transfer portal, says he is staying at PSU. This was the only decision that didn't make sense to me when I saw the transfer portal names, now its not happening. So, this offseason, the only one that shocked me is Givens

WR Cam Sullivan-Brown puts name in transfer portal, if he goes, we will have 7 scholarship WR on roster next fall. I think we make a strong push for Kumah from VT as grad transfer as well. Also think we see moe 2 TE with Bowers/Kuntz opposite Friermuth. Kuntz is an athletic freak WR/TE hybrid type like Gesecki

Phil Galiano leaving for Saints assistant ST coach. I think this was a case where he was going to be gone, but James heped him find a landing spot because he was very well liked.

Like this pickup a lot. Could never stay healthy at FSU but has an intriguing size/speed combination that could lead to him being an impactful player if he could stay healthy. Does this mean PSU will stop pursuing Kumah or will they continue to go after him as well?

Joe Lorig named ST coach and defensive assistant. I think he ends up helping Pry with LBs, has alot of recruiting experience and good connections in Cali where we seem to be making some waves lately. Really like the hire.
