ehh....i dont know how you could be happy after being bad for 5 years- and at the end of the day end up with Kuzma, Ball, Ingram and Hart.

the salary cap mistakes, the trade mistakes, the free agency mistakes--- if the Lakers made just a few incremental better choices they could be lined up to have a monster 4 year stretch.

instead- say they trade away every asset they have practically for davis- they are left with little cap room, basically no picks, a 35 year old lebron next year, and AD-

AD is obviously amazing, and LeBron is still great, but for a Lakers hater such as myself, after seeing that team be down for 5 years and all the high picks they got and all the time they hd to clear cap space etc...its pretty crazy to see them in the spot they are in right now.

I honestly can't tell which scenario you are saying would result in them being bad for 5 years. Or are you saying both?

In either scenario, there's still one max-contract worth of space to play with. Its not LeBron and AD or LeBron and the young core.... its LeBron, AD, 1 max spot OR LeBron, young core, 1 max spot.

And, no, its not a given that the Lakers will land a max guy... but that space can also get you 2 or 3 valuable pieces.

I can't believe the Wizards could rationalize paying a HEALTHY Wall that much money. Houston is in much the same boat with CP3. There are select few players worth that kind of money. If you get to the 10+ years 35% max territory, tread lightly, GMs!

When some of these guys start requesting these contracts, you're almost better off moving on and taking a chance on some younger player in the draft. Which is insane since talent is what gets you by for the most part. Wall's contract prevents the Wizards from doing anything of significance for the next few years.

It basically comes down to who do you believe has the makings of becoming a franchise player.

Tatum is the only one.

Kuz, Brown and Ingram could develop into occasional All Stars.

Ball projects to be solid.

Tatum is the only possible Star.

Even though the Lakers are willing to give up MORE assets...

Quality > Quantity
id take Knox's ceiling over everyone in that post besides Tatum.

4 years 60M and TBH I'm matching in a heartbeat. Given his age and growth, I'd do that all day and be really happy about it. When you get to 4 years 80, that's when you start to think harder about it.

I mean that's the type of deals that Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine got in the off-season. I think Ingram has a higher ceiling with already similar production.

The rest of the deal is not really interesting to me. Hart is a nice player, but he's 8th man on a winning roster. Lonzo, I think he's played great before his injury but just not a fan of his game. Kuzma is going to be a Rudy Gay type player in his career. Best role is a super-sub likely. Zubac, has shown flashes, but he's a real unknown. Also like you said the 1st round picks would likely be late anyways, so not a ton of value there.

Hart's shot has abandoned him this year, which really hurts his value. If he was still shooting .396 from 3 like last year, he would be ingrained as the Lakers starting 2.

i was saying they WERE bad for 5 years and just did not land nearly enough assets in that time frame.

holy shit did you just see that Wall news?

John Wall Slipped On His Infected Heel That Had Bone Spurs And His Achilles Tendon Exploded And His Supermax Begins Next Year

Here is perhaps the grimmest news item of the NBA season, relayed by the Washington Wizards under the devastatingly deadpan headline, “John Wall Injury Update.”

Wizards guard John Wall will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon. The procedure, which has yet to be scheduled, will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, WI. Wall is expected to return to full basketball activity in approximately 12 months from the time of the surgery.

Wall had developed an infection in the incision from initial surgery on Jan. 8 (a debridement and repair of a Haglund’s deformity and a chronic Achilles tendon injury in his left heel that was also performed by Dr. Anderson) and he suffered the rupture after slipping and falling in his home. The rupture was diagnosed by Wizards Director of Medical Services and Orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih during a procedure to clean out the infection.

So, John Wall’s season ended on Jan. 8 when he had surgery to clean up some bone spurs and a chronic Achilles injury in his left heel. He then developed an infection in the incision from that surgery. He later slipped and fell in his house and ruptured the Achilles tendon in the same heel that had previously been operated on and infected. His left heel may just be a lump of infected scar tissue at this point.

Wall’s four-year contract extension, which will pay him an average of $42 million a season, kicks in next season

I don't know, everyone keeps saying the Pels can't draw free agents, that quantity may become very important.
Yeah, that's fair to say.

But, I get why the Pelicans might want to wait.

Wall's achilees that he just had surgery on got infected- he slipped on it, and just blew it up--- this JUST happened.

Hes out for probably ALL of next year. Doubt he ever gets back to anything close to what he was

and he has 4 years 160M left on his deal.

Wiz are just gigantically fucked.

Lakers basically got fed up with the car salesman and finally walked out of the dearlership.

Either 2 things will happen at this point:

A) The salesman will run out after them telling them they are SO LUCKY cause he just got special approval from the manager to go ahead and take their offer. This indicates that the salesman was just playing hardball, squeezing every $ of commission out of them he could.

B) The salesman will let them walk and won't call or text them again. This indicates that the offer wasn't close to being enough and a deal just isn't possible.

just wow.....

that might be the worst contract in the history of sports now.

4 years 160-- just kicking in this year--- and the dude just had his infected achilees that he had surgery on explode.

holy shit - -especially for a plyer like Wall who lives on his athleticism. That is just awful news. I feel bad for him. Thats a long long road back.

The Lakers need to pivot that way.

How good would be be on the Thunder or Sixers?
Beal has been BALLING lately.

The Lakers should pivot that way and try and keep room open for Davis in a year and a half.

The guy looked puffy all year long.

Now he gets to sit a year and get fatter while making 38 mil.

Wall is absolute GARBAGE without his speed.
