LA vs NO

?

I only saw the highlights, apparently it was helmet to helmet, no way the receiver had a chance in that situation. I suppose the refs deemed it was a legal play?

Or is it more of the NFL's fake ass "entertainment" shit?

They missed the P.I. call. I can see how they missed the helmet-helmet deal because, well, that call has been inconsistent all season long.

They blew the call. Did it cost N.O. the game?

A. There's no guarantee that N.O. scores after that play. Too many wacky things can occur. A fumble, an INT, a missed FG. Are those likely to happen? No, probably not, but no one can say for 100% certain they wouldn't.

B. N.O. had a 13 pt lead and LA had no momentum. You're up 13, with Drew Brees, at home. The penalty sucked, but there were multiple opportunities prior to the penalty and post that N.O. simply did not take advantage of.

One play does not cause any team to win/lose a game. There are hundreds of plays run through each game, each has a cumulative effect. In a vacuum, it's easy to point to specific plays that make/break a game, but there are so many smaller things that have just as big of an impact on the game as those highlight moments.

So, no, that one play did not cost them the game.

There were a few articles this year that tried to rank Drew Brees among the best to ever play the game. The consensus of these articles was that he is wildly underrated.... And I think that is a fair statement given that his entire career has played out behind Brady and Manning (until the last few years). But he's only been to one super bowl.... And he's lost a number of playoff games against competition they should have beat....And he's played for a guy that we think of as a good coach. This is a long way of saying that there was no reason for NO to lose that game yesterday. They fucked up two redzone oppotunities in the first 6 minutes of the game and then they blew a two touchdown lead in the second half.

^.

I actually laughed out loud after it happened.

I know I shouldn't had knowing it always happen against the Bengals, but yeah. It was clear as day. NFL is just being the NFL as usual.

Hopefully the XFL turns out to be a real league with their 2nd attempt soon.

I understand what everyone is saying here, but yes, the refs literally took a SB appearance away from NO. Yes, lots of things can happen, but pass interference between the 5 and 10 yard line with 1:46 to play and the Rams with 1 TO.

NO takes 3 knees and the Lutz has a chip shot into the net with 4 seconds to play. Game over. Rams never get a chance for that 57 yarder.

I was good with either team winning as I like both. However, that was a severe screw job to NO, and to top it all off, Gurley superimposes him and the ref trading jersey's after the game. Of course it is not real, it is just a funny by Gurley, but even the Rams say, yeah that was a terrible call.

Robey Coleman: “Yes, I got there too early. I was beat, and I was trying to save the touchdown.

Reporters showed Nickell Robey-Coleman his hit on Tommylee Lewis. His reaction: "Oh hell yea. That was PI."

Obviously no one is denying it. However, if the play was called properly, the clear assumption is the Saints take 3 knees to get to 4 seconds and attempt a chip shot for Lutz in a dome. Pretty easy to see the writing on the wall there.

Why would the league want LA in the SB over NO? Brees versus Brady? Could this be either ones last chance at a SB ring? All-time great against all time great? I think it would have been a better marketing matchup with Brady versus Brees, unless of course the league was trying to help KC win, then I can see a KC versus LA game as a good hype match also. Offense versus offense. Young studs against young studs.

Now it is just, blah.

In a vacuum, yes the penalty cost them the game.

But, over the course of a full game...no. It did not. That penalty missed was no more assured of leading to a N.O. score, than when the refs missed a blatant facemask on N.O. that would have given STL the ball 1st and goal at like the 1 yard line the series before. STL scores there (no certainty) and then suddenly N.O. no longer needs a FG, but a TD...

You can't change 1 thing in a game, and not have a butterfly effect - it just doesn't work. The Saints have no one to blame but themselves.

This is what bothers me.... If that ref misses this obvious PI in the first quarter, it's an annoying missed opportunity for the Saints, but most people largely forget that it happened. When it happens in the last 2 minutes, it's lawsuit time. Mistakes happen.... This one just happened at a bad time. Everyone needs to move on.

The bigger issue for the Saints is that they couldn't capitailize on a fast start (2 field goals instead of touchdowns) and they couldn't hold onto a double digit lead - Even though they had one of the best offenses in the league.
