Drew Lock the most impressive QB in practices right now.

There is no guarantee that the Broncos go quarterback at ten in the upcoming NFL Draft, but without a doubt Elway is doing his due diligence and looking for 'his guy' to lead the team for the next decade.
The Senior Bowl is a perfect opportunity for the team to get their eyes on two of the higher regarded throwers in the class in Duke's Daniel Jones and Mizzou's Drew Lock.
Both will be under the microscope and discussed incessantly from now until April. Given that both will be going up head to head in practices for the North, a look at both quarterbacks and just how different they are was warranted.

From Charlie Campbell...

My good friend Cecil Lammey has reported on his radio show that the Broncos like Missouri quarterback Drew Lock. Lammey accurately predicted the Broncos would take Bradley Chubb last year and Garett Bolles the previous year, so to say that Lammey is tied into the Broncos is a massive understatement. Of course a lot can and will change in the leadup to the draft, but right now, those are some of the quarterback crushes I have heard about.

I heard that one of the concerns about Drew Lock is that his hand size isn't prototypical.

I personally like Jones, but Scangerello's neck is on the line for his input on who to bet the franchise on at QB - and how to develop that guy.

Yet he is up in Denver and not in Mobile. Seems weird to me if they were really interested in these QBs to have Scangs down in Mobile in person to see the QBs and even talk to his old boss Kyle who is coaching

Odd

Scang will get his chance in Denver when they bring in these kids to workout.

Lock does not possess the pre-snap nor post-snap read ability many would want from a top-10 pick

I would not draft him after you said that.

Stay away from all QB's in this draft if it is this bad though out.

Oh and all that air under the football(jones) in Denver will not work way to much wind.

Yes - it is odd. I have a feeling that Kyle Shanahan did not want him to go, but Elway - called in a favor to John Lynch and got permission. Maybe Kyle and Scan are not on good terms at the moment.

A very nice article. I don't know that either excite me much based on the article. I saw a mock draft that had us trading down to 15 and drafting Lock. I am more ok with the trade down but likely Lock doesn't make it to 15 as QBs tend to rise up the board. The question for me is are we confident that one of the guys in this draft are the guy to lead us. If we draft a QB high this year we are not drafting a guy high next year, but Trevor Lawrence is may be in play as we would play 2020 with this years rookie, and if he plays poorly the team may end up with the #1 pick (not really sure that happens even then).

The other thing that will be interesting is that many are predicting football activities to be impacted due to the labor dispute in 2021. That draft class will probably have a bigger jump from year 1 to 2 because they will miss some (maybe a lot) of training in year 1.

good stuff doc

I've warmed a lot to drafting Lock, as his upside and really good, natural arm motion are undeniable ..

But I think Jones is my favorite QB in this draft, and I'm most impressed by what he does from the shoulders up -- he really seems to understand the game ..

I wish I could take credit for this write up, but after I read this, I was really sold on Jones

I’ve been on the Jones bandwagon since his bowl game. I know others aren’t impressed due to his perceived lack of arm strength. But like you, @SpiritOf77, I’m intrigued by how quickly he seems to process the unfolding plays.

At this point I like Jones best also. He seems to be a poor man's Peyton. He also has been a team captain which would follow the leadership traits of last years draft. We will see what Elway does with Gary gone, and how much influence Gary and on last years draft.

Doc’s article paints Jones as maybe a 3rd round pick lacking arm talent to make the throws in a scang offense
Yes???

How does jones compare to mason Rudolph from last year?

My QB pick - would have the best set of physical tools - after first determining - if they are both smart enough and instinctive enough to play the position.

Drew Lock is trending for me. Will Grier is dropping for me. Doesn't help that he is hurt, but the more I look at film the more I think he might be an average NFL QB. Lock has more to work with.
