Gagne had an amazing 2003, but Prior and Schmidt both had an ERA+ around 180. I would have gone with either of them, I just think the 120+ innings overweigh the gap in ERA+ IMO.

The only other NL pitcher to receive votes was Russ Ortiz. Lol

I'm sorry Mussina's election to the Hall upsets so many people, but I'm even more sorry that this discussion brings up Tom Glavine's tenure with the Mets

oh... I agree... and even though I am arguing against him, I really don't have THAT much of a problem with him in... He is better than MANY who are in... Although, I don't think past mistakes justifies current ones...

I think my biggest problem is that he got in before some others who I rank better... and how others like Johan Santana and Kevin Brown were pushed out of the ballot so quickly...

Well both are special cases....Brown's PED situation killed any chance he had, and Santana's career was cut very short with his injuries (he topped 170 innings just 6x). Had neither of them had those issues, they likely do much better in the voting.

well, don't you find it funny that:

His tenure with the Yankees was 2001-2008, which is sandwiched between 2 Yankee WS...

So they won the season before WITHOUT him, and then they won again the season after WITHOUT him... But could not win 1 WS with the Yankees... NOT EVEN WITH THE YANKEES....

I thought it was all A-Rod's fault?

Was he ever a dominating pitcher where opposing teams really feared him? I don't think so.

1992 - 241 IP with a 154 ERA+

That's pretty fucking dominant. Maybe should have won CY that year.

'91-'01 he averaged 7 IP/GS with a 131 ERA+ for eleven years in the heart of the steroid era. Not a lot of pitchers did that.

I heard this morning on SportsCenter that his pitching WAR ranks 6th of all pitchers in the DH era.

There was a guy on FN that fucking loved him some Moose. Guy's name was Trooper. Loved Moose so much, I'd often refer to him as Mike Mussina's Grandmother. But the guy knew his stuff and he had a lot of facts to back up his claim that one day Mike Mussina would be in the HOF.

Wherever you are, Trooper, here's to you and Mike Mussina:

never really understood that mentality... But I would say most yankee fans learned to appreciate him at the end...

That was mostly the Jetes-fellators, to be fair. they were an especially obdurate group once Rodriguez was signed.

I think he does a great job as a broadcaster. He's pretty fluid and makes it look effortless, which was kind of the opposite of how most people saw him as a player. I actually enjoy seeing him on those playoff broadcast teams

Stupid take. The only thing Mussina is missing in his career is a World Series ring.

Which he would have gotten if Mariano doesn't throw a double play ball into center field in game 7 2001.
