John Elway, Stephen Jones wary of replay changes

WTF is Elway thinking ? You only have 2 challenges per game, make a PI a challengeable play, why is that so hard to wrap your mind around ? That means teams will have to be very strategic when they use that challenge... @#$^@ I'm starting to see why the competition committee has been a failure ...

Problem with the PI being becoming a challengeable call is, you run into the same scenario that it has become with MLB baseball. Maybe not the Saints scenario as there were 2 penalties on one play, but the official in the booth will side with the officials on the field more than not in a judgement call.

Ya nothing like not being able to challenge a potential game altering catch in the 4th quarter because you wasted a challenge earlier thinking a CB put illegal hands on your WR.

Hell what happens if you're out of challenges in the 4th and you get screwed by a penalty? Can't challenge because you already used them on actual plays earlier in the game.

People like to pretend this is an easy fix but in reality it's far from it.

agreed, but make it if you win the challenge you dont lose the challenge, if you lose the challenge you lose lose one of your reserve challenges. That way ur more selective not just challenging everything. IF you lose a few and are out of challenges, well that sucks, but you were wrong enough

The NFL needs to come up with a way to hold officials accountable. Whether it be monetary losses, loss of games (ie. suspension).
No it wouldn' t be easy to police but something needs to get done.

Take it out of the refs hands.
Each team gets one challenge for an egregious play they think the refs missed but might be subjective and let New York decide.

Allow the league officials to review shit like this, like they already do in the last 2 minutes for stuff like stepping out of bounds.

You can't get perfect replay. Change it so it's used in some other fucked up way? No thanks. PI is too often not called all over the field to just give a coach an "automatic first down" flag whenever he wants one.
Dumb.

Rather than take away a timeout for losing a challenge, make it a 25 yard penalty.

If you win the challenge, you get another and the ball is moved 15 yards in your favor.

You might see coaches challenging calls that were in their favor and getting a 15 yeard favorable call.

Some judgement calls are clearly not very hard to officiate with replay. Forcibly hitting the helmet seems to me, fairly straightforward. PI is a hilariously subjective mess that is favored to the offense (how many times have you seen OPI happen vs how many times it is called).

I tend to agree. The helmet to helmet PF's are the ones that concern me more and the PI can be very subjective, even on replay. I think if they do implement anything, I don't want the number of challenges increased. Make these guys use them wisely. I mentioned in the other thread that the CFL has a PI review policy in place but they also only allow one coaches challenge.

Make all referees full-time NFL employees and you’ll have better refs. It’s not complicated.

These guys have other jobs. It’s fucking stupid. Make them full-time and move on for fuck’s sake.

Or they are collecting social security checks. Seriously, some of these guys are too old for the speed of the game.
I agree about full time but I also think they need to get more development in place for younger guys and have guys ready for the big stage. A lot of the plays at full speed make the job extremely difficult so there is no perfect solution but the more tools these guys have from teaching and development, the better the system will be. Having guys in their 60's & 70's trying to run down the sideline to follow plays is ridiculous, imo. With the revenue the league generates, they really could put a little more into it. Just my 2 cents.

If you run out of challenges that on you as a coach, don't waste your challenges... We've had it like that for a long while now, all you would be doing in implementing the option to challenge a PI call..

Of course you can, they have all kinda of angles on these replay's .... Also, you only have 2 challenges per game, so I"m confused on what you mean by auto first down whenever a coach wants one ??? That's the whole point I just made, you have 2 challenges per game....

I like that idea as well, it won't slow the game down, and coaches will have to use that 1 challenge VERY wisely...
