I still think Moncaca will be very good, if not a star.
Yeah, you'd hope so. I'm just not taking the whole "rebuild" well considering Sox seem to suck regardless of rebuilding or not.

But this line started when an Edgar fan stated that Thomas couldn’t hold Edgar’s jock. That was the bar that was proposed.

The person who said that is one of the biggest homers on the site.

But McCovey only played when his bat was good enough to outplay his D. And he expended energy playing in the field.

A DH should be head and shoulders over a position player. He isn’t expending the energy in the field so the bat isn’t as heavy late in the game/season.

And so is Baines. And Morris. And Blyleven. And Hunter.

Edgar is in the :L wing of the Hall.

Not sure why you think Blyleven's a terrible choice....through about the same number of innings, his stats were very comparable to guys like Seaver and Gibson (who no one's questioning as HOFers).

All you got is “but, DH!” There’s nothing to deflect.
If 1B are graded on a different scale from SS, so too should DHs.

For a DH with a comparable bat to a good 3B to get in is ridiculous.

I was driving down Michigan Ave in Chicago a few years back and saw the Dutchman walking down the street. I veered to the side of the road like a psycho and asked him if he was Bert Blyleven. He indeed was and I grabbed a random economics book by Paul Krugman I had whipped into my back seat after finishing it. He signed it and chatted for a while. He was in town with the Twins for a set against the Sox. Nice fellow. IMG_1452.jpeg

And for the record, Ortiz shouldn’t be allowed to polish the other plaques in the Hall, let alone have his own added.

There''s only one 3rd baseman with a higher OPS+ and it's Dick Allen. The only one tied with is Schmidt. Allens not in , but that probably has more to do with "character issues" and clashes with sportswriters.

I dont care who broke the unanimous bullshit, I am just glad it is done. Finally we can stop punishing players because some idiots could not figure out the ballot for Ruth.

Voters need to pull their heads out of their asses. Did anybody think that Mike Schmidt, Rickey Henderson, George Brett, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, ... wasn't a HOF'er? It was just a few douchebags contrarians that left them off the ballot because "it's not supposed to be unanimous" for god knows what reason or "so and so wasn't unanimous so I'm going to make sure he isn't either".

Now that a guy who clearly isn't the greatest player ever became a unanimous choice maybe they'll drop that line of bullshit. Don't get me wrong, I think he's great and well deserving of a unanimous choice, but if you had the choice between Mariano or Willie Mays for their entire career who the hell are you going to take?
