If you look at Thomas' numbers through roughly the same amount of plate appearances as Edgar had:

Thomas - .307 AVG, 161 OPS+, 448 HR, 1465 RBI, 1327 R
Martinez- .312 AVG, 147 OPS+, 309 HR, 1261 RBI, 1219 R
2 MVPs, 4 other top 5 finishes, 3 other top 10 finishes and 2 other seasons recoeving votes.

Edgar has 1 top 5, 1 top 10 and 3 other seasons receiving votes.

McCovey played a complete game.

That is akin to saying McGriff should be in because he was a much better hitter than Ozzie.

Glad to see Mussina make it in. That guy could pitch.

For a DH to get in, he needs to be firmly in the inner circle of HOFers with the bat.

He should be in discussions with Mays, Ruth, Bonds, Williams, Ott, Foxx, etc.

Edgar should’t be refilling these guys drinks.

Not remotely true, and I think Edgar deserved enshrinement.
I don’t it’s true either, but it’s not like the stats are that far off, it’s a little muddied because Edgar had almost 1000 fewer at bats, but it’s not like you line them up and say one is a clear hall of famer and one is just okay.

I would imagine Mussina is an Oriole in Cooperstown. All of his ASG appearances came with Baltimore. I was just perusing his stats. He threw 237.2 innings in 2000. Remarkable. Seven Rawlings Gold Gloves. Considering 300 wins is pretty much unobtainable in today's MLB with the specialized relievers, he had 270 and had to wait this long to get in. Blasphemy say I.

McCovey played a complete game.

Good for him. He was also a lousy defender (-80 runs). Edgar at least rated at as a plus defender before moving to DH because of a hamstring injury.

Ah, so back to the DH thing. A closer just gets the first unanimous vote, but we’re concerned about a DH in there.

NL purists really make me enjoy the Red Sox last 4 WS wins. It's been fun watching them curb stomp "real baseball teams".

I'd say a guy with 500+ plate appearances has a far bigger impact than a guy who faces about 300 batters per season and relies on the fielders around him.

But McCovey only played when his bat was good enough to outplay his D. And he expended energy playing in the field.

A DH should be head and shoulders over a position player. He isn’t expending the energy in the field so the bat isn’t as heavy late in the game/season.

Cool if our Sox teams undo that whole Sale trade debacle?

But this line started when an Edgar fan stated that Thomas couldn’t hold Edgar’s jock. That was the bar that was proposed.

I still think Moncada will be very good, if not a star.

Edit: goddamn phone
