Well the cavs went to 4 finals, and won a championship. Lets see what the lakers do...

Also Love is out

Getting to the finals in the East < getting to the finals in the West. How many championships has any team other than the Warriors won since Durant copped out?

Sixers and Rockets have also lost to the Cavs. Lakers have also recently beat the Thunder and pushed the Rockets to OT before losing yet another starter (Ball) and that game. Sure it was a bad loss, but on any given night....

You can add the Nets and Pacers to that list too. The Cavs only have 9 wins, but 5 of them are over teams currently in the playoff hunt.

I was mostly laughing at the fact that a Cavs fan made fun of how shitty his team is to make fun of us lol

Well, that team is trying to lose right now (not that they need to try hard). However, playing against Lebron's new team is one of those nights they don't tank (like when the Lakers would play certain rivals the last few years).

Point still remains that Lakers fans over value their players.

And I'm sure LA will land someone in FA. Guys want to play in LA, the Lakers are located there.
Maybe, but do stars want to play with Lebron. Durant's comments were not completely off base. I've heard a few guys who were supposedly headed to LA when their deals ended (Westbrook, Love and PG). None did.

Could be they know Magic/Pelinka aren't all that bright in the FO?

George decided he liked where he was. It's called free agency, and if "Playoff P" wants to stay in OKC, so be it. If they had emptied the roster of young players to get him, maybe Lebron doesn't come. It's not a failure unless they can't get a different 2nd star player to the team in the near future.
I agree, though I'd worry that Magic might be like the typical fan and would rather get the better "name" player than the player who might be a better fit.

How are they not getting crushed for letting Randle walk? And the guy signed a very modest deal. To save cap room to MAYBE get a guy who may or may not even be a better fit than Randle, who is exactly what they need?

We'd have to ask a couple of GMs to truly know if their trade value has fallen. Kuzma had that 40 point 3-quarter performance, and when you compare what these Lakers have done without LeBron to what the Cavs did without LeBron last season then it doesn't look that bad. Then you have guys like Richard Jefferson talking about how difficult it is to play without LeBron once you've gotten used to having him and the impact he has on the game.
Some good points, but Lebron did not miss a game last season so hard to know how they played without him.

If you are talking the year before, a couple points. First, many of the games he missed Love and/or Kyrie also sat out. In addition, the Cavs actually worked to put the best type of players around Lebron. Guys who could shoot and spread the floor. They were built to mplay with him so stands to reason they would not play well without him.

The Lakers failed to find this type of player to play around Lebron, even though Magic tried to sell it as not doing what the cavs did, because, you know, only going to 4 Finals and winning one was a failure. The fanboys in the media ate it up because he is Magic.

A lot of those games we were resting a combination of Irving and love with lebron. I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that statistic.

Role players are easier to incorporate than 2nd and 3rd options
In addition, as mentioned, we actually built a team to play around Lebron with shooters. Hard to win when he doesn't play.

from 8 straight Finals to having to claw for a playoff spot..lol

3 games above .500

icant imagine the shit Cavs fans would be getting if they were 3 games above .500 and in the 9th slot with LeBron.
Cavs FO and their fans took a lot of shit as a 50 win team, who everyone should have known didn't care about seeding.

could you imagine how much Gilbert and the FO would get shredded if they let their best player go for a minimal contract? Or if Lebron said he wanted to play with smart players and they brought in McGee, Stephenson and Chandler?

OK, but no one other than the Cavs has beaten GS the last 4 years in the playoffs.

Their entire frontcourt and some of their backups are all out.
Cavs are missing their entire front court

Love and Thompson starting and Nance Jr. as a backup- missing all for long stretches this season hurts.

When you look at those 3- for the PF and C position- there erally arent many better 3-somes in the East for the front court than those 3.

Detroit, Philly, Toronto, Milwaukee, Orlando all better front courts

Well Stephenson had a quote after he signed where he essentially said "I can't believe LeBron actually wanted me". I think Magic, Pelinka, and LeBron all signed off on the plan for this season before anything was ever decided. I also think they all understood that a championship would be a hard thing to accomplish this season, but this past month has been kind of suspect. It almost seems like LeBron was taking his time coming back just to see how they would perform without him. I'm not saying that's a fact, just how it seemed to me.

Now there are rumors about the Lakers being open to trading any of the young guys for either a 3 & D guy on an expiring contract or a superstar. If the plan wasn't to compete for a championship then it's kind of weird to trade one of your recent draft picks for a 3PT shooter who probably isn't move the needle very much against a team like the Warriors.

If the rumors are true then someone's run out of patience, probably Magic.

The Lakers would have loved to have been able to keep Randle. He was a cap space casualty.

They had to let him walk and renounce his rights to create the cap space to sign Lebron and another star player.

Basically, he came up for an extension at the wrong time.

Magic wasn't talking about what the Cavs did with Lebron as far as going to the finals. He was talking about how much Lebron had to do in order for the Cavs to accomplish what they did.

Lebron had to do literally everything for the Cavs to win. The Lakers realize that Lebron is closer to the end of his career than the beginning and so does he. They are trying to create a situation where others can carry more of the load (ball handling, play making, rebounding, etc.) during the game so that at the end of close games and in the playoffs, he has the energy to do Lebron things.

Believe me, after the last several years, the Lakers and Magic would love to have a similar result to what the Cavs got the last 4 years, they're just trying to do it without running him into the ground. That's part of the reason they aren't trying to rush him back from this injury.
