KC's D isn't good, period. They beat teams because they rack up the points. Give the Pats 3-4 chances to get 10 yards when they absolutely have to, and they usually will, especially vs KC. And why does New England's D get off the hook? They were getting absolutely torched. They were damn lucky they didn't have to play defense first.

The rules are not "fine" if Pat Mahomes is sitting on the sidelines in a playoff game because his offense isn't allowed to take the field. That's the opposite of fine, a blemish for the NFL, and an indicator that the system is need of a tuneup. (and why everyone is talking about it) I'm struggling to think of any major sport with an OT like this, and there's probably a reason for that: It's not good. Nobody has made a good argument for not letting each team play O and D, at least once. How bout letting both sides of the ball determine the winner in OT?

I didn't realize that this was some death match between QB's. Defense used to win championships, right? If you can't keep the opposing team out of the end zone when you need to after a kick off then you have no reason to bitch.

So a potential 30 extra minutes to an already grueling 60 minutes? All for it to end up being decided by sudden death anyway?

I think the OT rules are fine...I think it's some of the rules that they've handcuffed the Defenses with are what need to change.

Sudden Death is the best. It's all or nothing, now or never, do or die. It separates the men from the boys. Start crying about it being unfair, and ya might as well just go ahead and give em' participation awards. Just man up and make a stop.

All or nothing do or die, season on the line, step up and get a fucking stop or go home and sit on the couch sudden death

Want to bitch about the ridiculous PF that they gave when somebody was playing football too close to Tom Brady? I'll buy that. The call was a joke and it was at a huge moment. But bitching about Mahomes not getting on the field because his defense folded in OT is just plain stupid. Chiefs lost because of their defense.

I have a simple and elegant solution: Let the teams play the entire overtime period. Whoever is ahead at the end of the quarter, wins.

Except for the fact that we still end up with tied games during the regular season despite every aspect of OT rules favoring a clear winner as things are. Playing full 5th quarters no matter what opens the door for 6th quarters and a hell of a lot more injuries in games.

Besides that, they're always playing like chit by the start of OT due to fatigue as it is, yet you want to intentionally exacerbate that by demanding they play a minimum of 15 extra minutes for every OT? The games have already devolved into chitting on whichever defense is the most gassed by OT the way things are, so I say leave it alone. The game already heavily favors offense enough as it is, there's no reason to turn the diarrhea dial up on that in OT.

We actually had shit on your Rams that year, it was a disgruntled ex-Pats employee that made up some shit, but this year we have some good stuff. Hate to say it but think it was the over-confidence of the 'greatest show on turf" minus Warner. When you have too much swagger, or take the opponent lightly , crazy things happen. Like Michael Thomas and his flexing, held to 4 catches or KC when they scored or Hill made a catch, all the unnecessary dancing, fuels a fire to the other team. This year Pats beat every team that made the playoffs and lost 5 to teams that missed them, which is weird because they usually don't play to the level of competition or take teams lightly. Gonna coin a new phrase " On any given Sunday"

I liked Tyreek's big dance after his one catch yesterday... Little man taken right out of the game....

What, you guys don't like his fancy firstdown gesture or Damion ?Williams td while losimg……...Me either, talk about looking stupid.

Maybe just get rid of the extra period entirely and have them do a shootout NHL style where all the players try to split the uprights from 30 yards or something.

Overtime suggestions.
--Play a 15-minute period--team leading at the end is the winner (like they do it in basketball).
--Play a 10-minute period--same as above.
--Team that scores twice wins.
--Team that scores first wins (sudden death).
--Both teams get at least one possession.
--Extra points are eliminated in OT...must go for 2.

I'm good with how they do it now, but if they change it I'd be good with that also. Woody Paige had an interesting idea. Eliminate the coin toss and simply give the ball to the road team first and then the home team gets a possession...kinda the way they do extra innings in baseball. I could live with that.
I could live with that this way the home team who earned that right knows what they have to do to match whatever the visitor does first. That wasNEHomer issue that you can use 4 downs if you are the second team to go. Earn the right with a better record...

I could get on board with just playing an extra quarter but there may be safety concerns.

The other option is both teams only get 3 downs to get a first down otherwise it is a mandatory kick of FG or punt. Each team gets the ball the same amount of times until someone scores. You end up with a semi sudden death unless the first team to get the ball scores first then the second team has one more chance to tie or win. In this scenario both teams get the ball the same amount of times no matter what with the same amount of downs. No need for a clock, timeouts or any other bullcrap.

If the dingbat DE on the Chiefs isn’t lined up offsides, the Chiefs intercept Brady and it’s Rams Chiefs... we are not in here with boxes of Kleenexes even talking in this thread

Who's fault is it KC's defence isn't good?

Man up, grow a pair, get out there and play some defence.

There seemed to be a lot of dancing and kavorting from KC every time they made a "play".

Bouncing about should be saved for when there is something to really bounce about.

Like a win.

This is the same bullshit garbage when Rodgers and the Packers lost in Seattle. Despite the fact that the Packers were well ahead in the second half of the game and the vaunted Packers ofc couldn't bury the Hawks and that the Packers D and ST shitting the bed was why it went to OT in the first place.
Food for thought, if this scenario happens to a Blake Bortles or even some average QB, I have serious doubts that people are making such a fuss. Just because you have a superstar on the bench on the other side doesn't mean you have to change things.

If that was Seattle facing the Pats in OT they would have accepted the challenge and played tough defence like they always do. I doubt there would be any moaning and bitching about the Wee One not getting a chance if they couldn't stop them.

It would be what it was....

After thinking about this since someone had started this thread......

BULLSHIT.....There is nothing wrong with the ot rules.....Who cares if both teams don't each handle the ball atleast once.....

If you lose the coin toss,it's up to you to stop the other team from getting a td.....Plain and simple.

You'll get a chance if to win if you can hold them to 3 or less pts.....

As I said earlier in this thread,THEE only thing I'd change is,there's no time on the clock.....You use just a play clock and the game will never end in a tie.

At least Mahomes was classy about it, despite being down 14 at half, to take a 4 pt lead with 1 min to go. GB
s D int Wilson 4 times in first half to take a 16-0 half-time lead and lost. At presser Rodgers said ' The better team lost today" ?????

That's because Rodgers is a whiny little bitch. This Mahomes kid is a lot easier to like for a lot of reasons.

I think Sonny nailed a salient point.

Are folks just fussed about this because the new wunderkind Mahomes was denied a shot?

What if this was NE-JAX in a 10-10 game. JAX getting a turnover for a TD and 1 FG.

With NE winning the toss against the headhunting on song JAX defence?

And NE still did what they did to the woeful KC defence and got the TD.

Would they still be clamoring for Blake Bortles to get his shot?

Or would they say that Brady stepped up and it was valid.

Because it's a team game.

Just about the only way this goes away at all is if they remove the coin toss.

But then what happens, the offences goes the same way each drive? It's the only way to be fair without a coin toss.

I think you are just fucking up something not broken because this time the optics seemed off.

I still say KC wasn't going to get a TD anyway.

It was so disappointing to not see Mahomes get a chance to match Brady with a TD of his own.

IMO no matter what the team does in the opening possession, the other team should be get the ball back to try and match it.

After that then you can go to sudden death.

I'm perfectly fine if they would only use this formula in the playoffs.

I fully agree. NFL overtime rules completely suck, and I didn't even have a dog in last weekend's fights.......

It's absolutely asinine to not give both teams a possession.

So it comes down to this you could say........ whoever wins the coin toss at the beginning of overtime is probably going to win the game...... yep. the coin toss........... sad.
