These men all attended at least 3 years of college. Maybe a game of trival pursuit. That would extend overtime to at least an hour before someone quits.

Not if Jameis Winston plays, die and wedges would be all sticky after he licks his fingers

No, that's stupid.

There should be something more entertaining and a test of skill. Like they cart out a Hungry Hungry Hippos board that has SIX hippos (instead of the usual 4) and your 3 best Hungry Hungry Hippos guys square off against the opposing team. Winner of that gets to choose.

If it's a tie in marbles then the team winner of a 2 man sack race from the 20 yard line to the endzone gets to choose. "What if they tie that?!" some idiot will ask. PFFT, we have instant replay!

Ratings should skyrocket during these events which will only appease the NFL and in an effort to cut down run time across the board we can remove the Super Bowl half time show. Done and done.

I know you're being quasi-facetious and saying obviously ridiculous things as some sort of joke. But honestly this could be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

First off no way they are removing the half time show. So let's just forget about that. If anything they should remove the 1st quarter so we get the halftime show earlier. But then it wouldn't be halftime. And really the drama is mostly in the 4th quarter anyways. So getting rid of the 3rd quarter would keep all the drama and even it up to keep the halves.

But besides that, why would you want to save the sack races for the few OT games? They should do that for first possession.

What if teams have the same record?

If it is the playoffs and indicated in the OP there is a reason it is being played in one of the stadiums as one team is a higher seed than the other even if the record is the same. It would go by which ever team is the higher seed even if record is tie.

How about the team which has the most missed calls during in the game gets the ball. Fans vote how many times their team was cheated by a non call.

Too soon :trash:

If the record is the same you could use the same tie breaker system used to seed teams such as conference wins, or total points scored or whatever all the things are that are used when there are ties.

The answer is obvious. Teams need to spend more time practicing the coin flip calls, and hire only the best coin flip coaches to work with their players. Hell, they even have a get-back coach, they should devote more energy to something as important as getting the coin flip in their favor.
there's actually some merit here, there was that time when that guy from the Patriots got it wrong, with bad consequences, a few years back.

Overtime should not be sudden death.

This sport isn't hockey.

It's not amazing and fast. It's dull and slow.

Play another full 15 minutes when it's tied.

The only acceptable answer here is Paper, Rock, Scissors....best of 3 to determine who gets the ball first.

In relation to determining opening possessions of games in regulation and overtime...

I'd like to have the head referee spin a big wheel on the sidelines like a game show host to randomly select the method in which opening possession will be decided. Some options could include:
  • Poker: The two head coaches sit across from each other at an NFL-licensed card table at midfield playing a poker hand dealt in by the lead referee.
  • Dodgeball: The teams' starting offensive linemen play a game of dodgeball at midfield.
  • War: The teams assemble their best gamers in a 8v8 war video game Team Death Match.
  • Arm Wrestling: The two teams' punters have an arm wrestling competition at midfield.
  • Coin Toss: ...for nostalgia.

Just stick with the toss... No team deserves the ball more than the other if they've tied for four quarters. Leaving it to chance is as good as anything.

I guess if I'm fantasizing - I could see some kind of field goal battle.

Start 30... hit that... move back to 40... then 50... Take turns at 50 until one guy misses.

How about they keep tabs of who kneels during the anthem during the regular season. The team that has the most infractions has to kick off during any playoff game.
