Let's be frank: Minnesota got fleeced in the Butler deal

Obviously Butler had to go, but this return is very underwhelming and will likely leave the team committed to mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

Covington is an OK 3-and-D wing on an unnecessary contract. It's not that he's a bad player by any means, but with four years attached to him, there's going to be better value on the FA market in the coming years. (DeMarre Carroll, for instance, could come extremely cheap this summer, and he's had some very good games lately after beginning the season with injuries.)

Saric is an underachiever whose lack of defense will not work next to KAT. The throw-ins to the deal were an expiring contract in Bayless and a second-round pick. Anyone excited yet??? I know I'm not...

I think the common problem here is that everyone and their mother believes that by gutting their talent base and tanking multiple seasons, that Philly has found the ideal way to build a team (obviously I'm not one of these people, even if this particular team had no other options at the time). And that this whole beaten-down "Trust the Process" theory has led fans and teams alike to overvalue Philly's young prospects. And Covington isn't even that young...

The way I see it for Minnesota, however, is that it goes to that not only was Thibs a grossly overrated coach, but he was also a very bad GM as well for taking on this problem child from his Chicago days, and the team is going to pay a steep price through the ass for it even now that Thibs and Butler are gone.

The question I would like to pose for Minnesota fans (@mr.hockey4242 @Mebert @Nosferatu ) - Would you have rather given the money to LaVine instead of Wiggins? And do you think your team have been any better for it?

I was going to write something witty here but last time I did, Cane had a tough time understanding what an analogy is. Won't make that mistake twice.

Nobody overvalued Covington. He wasn't one of Philly's prized prospects. It is all about Simmons and Embiid. The Wolves were never getting more than 60 cents on the dollar for Butler.

And while you may not have to go full PHILLy style tank mode, if you are in a non destination market you have to start your build through the he draft if you want to build anything resembling a contender. Large market teams and warm weather cities have more options.

I would take Covington and Saric over Lavine and Dunn. That is before you consider Lavines way over the top contract. It might go slightly against the wolves because of Markkanen.

Your depiction of Covington is way off too, he is a very good defender on a good contract for his value.

Covington is on a great contract. An all-nba 1st team defensive player that can hit 3s. He is the prototypical 3 and D player.

I don't know how real the other offers were. If they were then Thibs should have probably taken them. But the Rockets drafts picks weren't going to save his job so I get why he wouldn't do that one.

BTW, good game tonight @HurricaneDij39. I really enjoyed it.

Covington's a good player. They had to trade Butler so to get Covington back is a good thing IMO.

You know, the sad thing about Sports SportsHoopla is that I could predict what my responses are going to be in a given thread before I even open them.

Go figure. :L

Pretty much every thread you starts talks shit about a player or a team. Talk about predictable. Post something of note and get actual responses.

Addendum:

Post something of note that doesn't fit your personal agenda

If it does 1 of these 4 things:

1) Promotes the Pacers
2) Promotes the Nuggets
3) kisses Wiggy's ass
4) Promotes a mediocre player you have a hard on for (Solomon Hill, DeMarre Carroll, etc.)

If he creates a thread that doesn't track trash about somebody/something, you can bet it will be doing 1 of these 4 things.

Butler is over-rated in my opinion. His impact on the Sixers so far has been underwhelming. He's another loud-mouth selfish player.

If you stopped posting here, like you said you were going to awhile back, 2 things would happen:

1.) You wouldn't have to worry about "predictable responses".

2.) You could spend more time with your cat.
