Yes that data is UCFactored in.

Also factored in is how Bama tried to shut down UABs FBS program. That’s some of the slimiest thing to happen in FBS. Right up there with Texas lobbying to get Nebraska’s academic credentials revoked so they would bolt to the Big 10. At least that one backfired.

#UCFacts

That was a rather unique situation. There are three governing bodies for four-year colleges in Alabama: the University of Alabama System is responsible for our flagship University's three campuses in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham & Huntsville; the Auburn University System controls that colleges campuses in Auburn & Montgomery; and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education is responsible for the rest of the state's four-year public universities.

Some of the UA Board of Regents were unhappy with UAB's football program & wanted it shut down. The UAB president decided to do so after the 2014 season, but he came under a lot of fire & the program was resurrected in 2017. In 2018 the Blazers won the Conference USA championship & went on to defeat MAC champion Northern Illinois for their first-ever bowl game victory.

The UA Board of Regents has no say-so in colleges outside the University of Alabama System. So, in a few years, if the University of North Alabama should get approval to move its nascent FCS program up to FBS, there would be nothing the University of Alabama could do about it.

My best friend lived in Eagle River, Alaska for several years. On one of the trips I made to visit him we actually played golf at 1:30 am.

Oh yeah. In the Alaska Summer Collegiate Baseball League
they can play games around the clock

Honors, you were known on the other board for your dizzying intellect and top notch math skills. No doubt there are thousands of lines of code (perhaps running on a Vax?) that generated the simulations that led to these indisputable conclusions. Can you share with us some of the figures of merit (chi squared, fishers exact,...) so that we may appreciate these findings?

I have no idea what you were saying here but I got a brain boner from reading it.

Ok, I saw a couple head scratchers on your list, but I'll stick to the most obvious one TO ME. How do you figure Iowa would be an easier place to start up a brand new FBS program than Minnesota? I mean, it seems to me there are more than enough schools playing football already, and it would be a very expensive endeavor, so I had never put any thought into it. But Minnesota is the largest state in the country with only 1 Div 1 school, so wouldn't it be easier to set one up there than in a place like Iowa? Just curious.

UCFhonors may have gotten a lot of stuff wrong, but he's probably correct in stating that Iowa would be an easier state to start an FBS program. The fact that there are already a couple of FCS programs in the state of Iowa means there is a possibility of one of those schools upgrading. Minnesota has no schools above the D-2 level other than the U of M, and starting a new program from scratch ain't that easy. I don't think the Minnesota Board of Regents wants there to be any in-state competition for the Gophers.

No Washington DC either.

At least it is within the states, even if it is not a state. There used to be the equivalent of an FBS team there years ago (George Washington), but nothing above the FCS level now.

Well, I thought the concept of the question was the creation of a new program out of nowhere, not simply upgrading current football programs.

But even so, I agree with you that the Univ of Minnesota would not want another Div 1 football school in the state, but are you trying to imply the University of Iowa or that Iowa St Univ DO want more Div 1 cfb programs in Iowa??

Not implying that the Cyclones or the Hawkeyes would want more competition, but that it would be easier to achieve since Northern Iowa - and to a lesser degree, Drake - already have the foundation in place to do so.

The original poster didn't clarify whether he meant to start a program from scratch or to elevate an existing program, so I'm thinking in the broader sense.

Good point. Must see TV. Could play it at this place.

That's the high school football field in Barrow. Some rich oil dude from Oklahoma paid for that field. It gets swamped with Polar Bears when the ice pack moves in bringing the seals with it.

Yep. IIRC, they were playing on tundra when he saw a special on TV. Isn't the football season in Alaska something like July - Mid Sept?

First week of August - end of October. Barrow plays all home games until mid Sept. and then they play all away games after that due to the bear and weather.

Looks like standing room only at that field. I didn't see any bleachers.
