I am admittedly an OU fan and I am admittedly no fan of most of the teams doing the most bitching about an expanded playoff. With that said, I'm all in favor of going to 8 teams if we throw away the farce of conference champions automatically getting into the playoff. A weak conference has a built in advantage with that approach. Maybe it is a yearly advantage or maybe it's only an occasional advantage but it makes no sense to reward a participation trophy to anyone. Take the 8 top ranked teams and let them go at it. If one conference has a big share of the field, then so be it. If Oklahoma doesn't make it as a conference champion because we are ranked below #8, then so be it. If none of the small fry make the playoff, too bad. The 8 top ranked teams would be a hoot to watch playing each other. And to placate the major bowls, rotate the initial four playoff games among them.

I agree with all this, but what is the reason to go beyond 4?

Just curious who all these 3rd place in their division finishers are that made the playoffs. The truth is, 8-4 finishing 5th in your division could be better than 11-1 winning a conference championship....depends on the conference and the division. Playing more conference games and expanding the playoffs is not going to fix that, or how shitty the Pac-12 is.
*conference

Still not sure why you are concerned with the PAC. Under the format I gave you last time. That was provided by an Alabama fan the PAC would be out this year.

Bottom line when discussing play off expansion. I have yet to see a substantial rebuttal against it. But when discussing the reasons for it cant be factually refuted.....

Really makes no sense to not want the best possible product. A higher competition level and true champion

This is not a word combination that exists for me.

I don't watch or read any of the "experts".

So you haven't heard of him? It's fine if you haven't it would just seem odd to me.

Moreso OU but the rain was widely discussed in terms of Sparty on Rivals

You all earned it though

Can't argue for AQ and be a hypocrite
What about Oklahoma? They didn’t play Ohio State and they were in the playoffs.

I am complete against AQ. If we go to 8 teams there is absolutely no need for AQs at all.

Sure I've heard of him, I just don't take so called experts serious. All they do is continue the same lame ass narratives and hype every season. Sports mad libs is what they amount to for me. Take last years article, replace a few names/teams and print it again!

I see with my own eyes what's going on, and where I don't see I look to stats for answers.

To me, a good sports journalist reports the facts. That's not what they do. They hype things and tell the readers what they want to hear because that is what makes them money. And good for them, I ain't hatin, but I ain't a buyer either. Although with this particular case, all I see is clickbait and false articles.

Bama fan going around shitting on expansion (literally)

Not surprising.

Just embrace it like Diego has

I’ve been an advocate for it during my entire Rivals tenure. I’d say our fans are split on it, but so are many other fan bases.

It just makes sense for EVERY team to have a pathway. And in the end, the “best 8” and the 8 obtained by the P5 champs, unbeatens, and remaining at large rarely will differ by much.

I honestly feel that at least 6 teams in most years are capable of winning it all. 6 is an unwieldy number so 8 makes more sense without play-in games. #7 and #8 would likely be cannon fodder but you never know. Shit happens. And I'd rather watch an OU game with us in the playoffs than watch us play the same opponent in some meaningless bowl game.

I'm not mad, I have an opinion and I think your opinion is shit. I'm blunt and don't care if you like it.

And it has nothing to do with Alabama. You want a shit system period. Alabama isn't going to be at the top forever, people have to think beyond their own teams current situation. You're just gonna end up shitting all over the sport because you think it's the NFL and it's not.

I think your opinion is convenient given Bama always gets the benefit of the doubt

Ohio State looked like shit all year long, got manhandled in the Michigan State game and lost to a team without a quarterback.

Manhandled = lost on a last minute field goal

But yes they didn't look great all year

I agree

Until Michigan/bowl game

Had Zeke and Michael Thomas

They have done fair professionally

What benefit of what doubt?

Am I supposed to be scared if you throw 3 loss Washington on our schedule? Do you understand that being the #1 seed is going to result in a game like that?

It's just dumb, adds no real quality and it's all at the expense of the regular season to fix a problem that doesn't actually exist.

Just last year?

So who was supposed to go instead, fucking Ohio St with your 2 losses and getting blown the fuck out by Iowa?

That's what you call Alabama getting the benefit of the doubt? That's what I call everyone else shit the bed. Alabama did not deserve to go last year, and that's why it's dumb to expand - it just got worse after Alabama.

Man you are angry

You know you guys don't get to win it all every year right?

I assume you're old enough to get through some rougher roads ahead

It's a debate sir. Just because you emphatically state your position doesn't make it any stronger

And yes you got beat by a team that lost to UCF

Gross.

The arguments are not sound arguments.

We argue about the wrong things.

We do not understand how a playoff works and/or what is its
chief goal.

A "playoff" is an elimination process. The Elimination should take
place on the field, not in a back room.

You first have to eliminate Independents. If they want to play for a
NC. If they don't let them play whomever they want. They just won't get in.

Take only the Conf Champs. They have eliminated everybody in their league. (The first step of elimination) Go from 130 down to
10.

Then the 10 play it off. Eventually only one team will be left
standing. That's the NC.

Too many people worry about who is the real Number 2 team in
the Country. Who gives a shit? We can argue that in the off-season. The playoff is only intended to find out who is #1.

The seeding takes place before the season begins. You'll
know your bracket before the season kicks off.

2 first round games. Champs of the MWC, MAC, CUSA and
Sun Belt play.

Winner of CUSA-Sun Belt faces SEC in week 2. Winner of
MAC-MWC faces Big10 Champ week 2. Also week 2...
ACC-AAC play and Pac12-Big12 play.

Week 3 is winner of CUSA/Sun Belt/SEC vs Winner of AAC-ACC.
Winner of MAC/MWC/Big10 vs Winner of Big12-Pac12.

Week 4 is the title game.

You don't need a committee, or "another man's opinion." It's
all settled on the field.
