It seems like Q is in no hurry to get back to work, so we may have to tread water here for a few more weeks. Whether that means Hakstol stays a little longer or Scott Gordon of the Phantoms takes over for that period of time, I don't know.

Either way, if/when you bring in Quenneville, that's a guy who has almost 900 career wins, so then everything is on the players moving forward. If you don't want to bring it every single game, we will ship you out of here fucking one by one if that's what it takes. Either that or you can ride the bench indefinitely.

I am not at all giving up on the season, but if our players don't start working together defensively and playing with urgency or intensity more often, it will surely be a lost season.

We're always chasing games and seasons under Hakstol. That's why he has to go. The inconsistency of this team over the last several years is alarming. That and our youngsters appear to have all taken steps back this season. Their development was supposed to be his strong suit.

It's a team right now with no identity, confidence, passion or urgency. A well-established coach will come right in and change that, which could definitely turn the entire season around.

Q is a no nonsense type of coach which I really like and what this team needs. He has a Keenan type personality from what I have heard from others. This is the spark that we all need to see sooner rather than later. Also, Q has to be agreeing in principal something similar to Babcock bc he's getting paid well by the Hawks still.

I can see your point and sometimes change can be a good thing with a team. Q is also good defensively which would help...

Heh. Bet Strehle and Driver are getting some scolding tonight. Breaking things early (or irrelevantly). A lot of smoke, but none of the big guys talking about it yet (Meltzer, Seravalli, national guys) so I won’t believe it til I see it.

Honestly, sucks for Hak to have it go this way. For that I blame the media more than the Flyers. They have a timeline and a procedure they have to work through, lame for the media to shortcut that. No win situation for the Flyers at that point.

Here's a pretty good article on this:

Some clarity on the Flyers chaos

Basically, Hak needed to win 2 of the 3 games last week to save his job and of course we lost all three of them, the first of which was a complete clusterfuck. The following two, we were mostly just going through the motions as a team, showing little fight.

He is expected to be officially relieved of his duties at around noon today.

Joel Quenneville will be our next head coach.

It seems like they will name an interim coach for now, however, as Q is busy spending time with his family throughout the holidays.

All of that and Fletcher is actively trying to make trades before the roster freeze on the 19th at 11:59 pm. One would assume that these would be "win now" types of moves.

Meant Issac, not Strehle. My bad!

We had a no nonsense type of coach in Lavi and was relieved of his duties.

Carter Hart recalled. Stolarz out 2-4 weeks, LBI. Lyon sent down.

Have to say, I'm concerned about this move. This looks like a Hail Mary because they didn't like their trade options.

Doesn't mean I'm not excited to see what he does, but it does reek of desperation.

So was the Quinneville hiring just a leaked pipedream, cause everything I'm reading says Hakstol stays?

The people that announced that, Steph Driver (Broadstreet Hockey) and Dave Issac (Courier Post), stand by it as an eventuality. But the Flyers are saying Hakstol is still the coach. Below is Driver's summary on the situation.

Some clarity on the Flyers chaos

As far as coaching goes, it sounds like the Flyers want to hire Q and replace Hak, but Q doesn't want to start until after the holidays. So the Flyers need some sort of bridge, either an interim coach or for Hak to stay on. I'm sure their preference was for Hak to stay on until Q was ready, but with all this chaos in the media, they might opt to go a different direction.

There hasn't been any statements to say 'Q won't be the coach' or 'Hakstol will coach at least through X'. The only thing they've said is 'Q is not the coach' and 'Hak is the coach'.

To be fair, the media releasing something as fact, before it is a fact, is not entirely the organization's fault. Someone, probably more than one since it got out, leaked it and shouldn't have, so you could blame the organization there, but the media has an equal hand.

Off-ice at noon, on-ice to follow. So i'd say we'll get a little more clarity soon.

Well if he knows for sure he's leaving, Haks should just quit on them and go like the team did to him over the weekend.

Awaz...I have been gone a while but you sure will go to war for this org these days haha. I think how they have been run is embarrassing. For that kind of stuff to leak is so unprofessional and truly unfair to Hack. Whatever you think about Hack, if you think he was given adequate talent to coach a winning club and deserves this kind of exit I think you are wrong. (When i say 'you' I mean fanbase in general not you Awaz haha). It's just sad, now we are bringing up the goalie to appease who? The unruly fanbase? This is the type of situation that you bring your only hope of turning around the goalie curse into??!?! It's desperate and wreaks of it. It also signals to me that these cronies at Comcast may have more power than the Holmgren's of the world may want you to believe.

This organization has turned into an embarrassment right in front of our very eyes. :gaah:
