PE7 was right about one thing in this thread:

Centers>RB's

(well ok, that's a little rich, even for me, but I had to get that joke in there)

I do see how offenses are run. Get a star QB and a star LT then RT. Every now and then there’s a special Guard worth using a top pick on. Then you got to get your QB some weapons like a stud WR. Why aren’t these GMs taking Centers high. I know a coach who has 5 state titles in HS and was a position coach at ASU and then a HS recruiter for ASU. He said never once did we recruit a Center. We would just use one of the kids who couldn’t handle the athletic ability tackles and Guards need and just convert them to Center. In all his years at ASU never once did they recruit a Center. He said we would spend more time trying to find a Kicker then a Center.

Centers aren't taken high because of the depth chart but they do get drafted in the first if a team needs it. Usually only two on the active roster vs WRs/RB's/CBs/LBs where there is a need for more depth. I have a friend that played on the o-line on Penn State squad so I asked him this question and he of course said the center is a big key to the offenses success which is what I expected. Obviously I don't need to explain to you as too why.

What do you mean depth chart. Did you ask your friend where he’d rank Centers compared to the entire team?

2 spots go to Cs while WRs/RBs/CBs/LBs have more depth spots to fill which is why they get picked more often in the first round. No, I'm sure he doesn't care about some ranking since he actually played the game and understands the importance of the center. So I'll take his word for it. Sorry if you don't like it.

Yeah and I’m sure he would say Kicker is important too. They are all important but Center is near the bottom of the hierarchy.
Depth... do you mean like QBs who also haven’t gone in the top 14 in 42 years. Right?

I think before you are even close to capable of having this debate with the grown ups. What you need to do is erase all names from all positions. Stare at them all as X's & O's Understand Strategies of coaches (still staring at X's & O's)
Figure out when one of these X's fails what does it affect? Centers & QBs literally affect everything on a play. So in its own right all positions on offense. The players name doesnt matter to the importance of a position. Two different debates.

You can act like a jackass with your smart ass post but sorry I take a word from someone who actually played on the line.

I wasn’t being a smart ass. I was making a point. Centers are important. So are long snappers and Punters. Every position can have an argument made for their importance. But I’m the hierarchy of positions it has ALWAYS been QB, LT/DE, CB, WR1 with Center being near the bottom. That’s why major division 1 colleges don’t even recruit them and NFL teams don’t use prime picks on them.

Normally that 2nd C is also backing up a Guard spot.

It's cool dude. You have your opinion and I have mine on the importance of the C
