I’d leave Mountcastle at Norfolk and have Davis play 3B. I want Trumbo at DH so hopefully he can hit well and we can trade him for higher value prospects. I would like to see Mancini at 1B.

more important is to have a fast outfield that covers the field instead of bodies in the field . our pitching isn't as bad as it looks like . cut the walks and they can play with anyone . I would love to lock schoop up to a friendly contract long term he would be a steal if you could get him to stop being a aj .

I would have no problem with a one year deal with Schoop at a minimal salary. Just hope that with Sig and Elias focusing a lot more on the analytics, we can bring in a hitting coach that can let him know what his strengths are and work on his weaknesses. That way we can just have Villar move over to SS. As for the OF, the three you have listed would be fine.

I think diaz will be another pie . McKenna is ideal 4th of I want him at aaa and if one faulters replace . they talk like most of hays problems all of last year was due to same problem that had to end in surgery . that outfield would give us the fastest outfield for the orioles ever and add in villar wow . Anderson ,finley and I forget who was with them would be closest ?

Can't say that's too surprising. I'm guessing that Drew Jackson that we got from Philly is just going to be a utility infielder like Flaherty was if he makes the team.
Looks like we lost quite a few guys in the Rule V draft but wouldn't be surprised if most or all of them came back.

nope it's easy to keep them at aaa . o's have to keep both of theirs at the pro level . martin and Jackson are just hole filler for grenier and adam hall at low a ball . Garcia is the one I hate losing but if someone can find a fielding spot for encarcion would be wonderful for the o's .

  • The Orioles have hired Koby Perez as the team’s new Senior Director of international scouting, as per a team press release. The 40-year-old Perez spent the last three seasons as the Indians’ director of Latin American scouting, his most recent stop in a career that has spanned 12 seasons and included roles as a crosschecker and scout with Cleveland, Philadelphia, and St. Louis (Perez and Orioles GM Mike Elias both worked as scouts in the Cardinals’ organization for two years). Under his new title, as per the press release, “Perez will oversee all aspects of the Orioles’ international scouting operations and management of the club’s bonus pool.” The Orioles have been notoriously indifferent to the international market for years, though this focus began to change even prior to Elias’ hiring, as Baltimore made a strong attempt to sign both the Mesa brothers and Sandy Gaston this fall. Going forward, it certainly seems as if the O’s will now be as aggressive and thorough in locating and signing international prospects as any club in the sport.

It’s definitely good to see that being a focus now for us. It’ll probably be a few years where we start seeing the results but I have no problem with that since we’re not going to be competitive in that time frame anyways.

I agree, hopefully, this means that they will be more active in Latin America now.

I definitely agree with Trumbo being the DH. Don't want to see him anywhere in the outfield during the season. I think if Mancini is at first, I'd like to see Davis moved over to 3rd. The outfield battle and the battle for the final two starting pitching spots are what I'm the most interested in during Spring Training.

atm hess is our solid 4 going into training camp . if you look at last year he had one very bad month over 8 era the rest was under 4.25 era . we had a terrible D all last year . ynot 19 . look cobb , cashner, bundy and hess could all do better in 19 with a better D ,

From "Would occasional use of an opener work for the Orioles?":
As it relates to the 2019 Orioles, I would not expect to see much use for an opener this year. They need to see what some of their young pitchers can do as starters and they are not trying to extract every win they can out of the 2019 season.

Maybe it's just me, but I wonder if going the other extreme would make more for the Orioles organization in 2019? In other words:
  • Why not go with a "no rotation" strategy where every game is handled with a relay team of pitchers, with the goal of spreading the workload more evenly among the pitching staff?

  • The fact that there is a risk of running out of available pitchers on the major league roster (because everyone has pitched too recently) isn't a bug; it's a feature. When this happens, the Orioles organization could simply cycle through the 40-man roster via the Norfolk / Bowie shuttle, which would allow them to evaluate as many prospects as possible.

It's one of those it sounds good in theory but not sure if it'd work in the long run. I think guys that are used to being the starting pitchers would have a hard time converting to that mentality. Plus, it could possibly ruin the trade value of some guys we could possibly get something for during the trade deadline if they can't get into that mindset.
