Lowlights of Bruce Allen's tenure with the Redskins

Saw this article about Bruce Allen's low pts & I know that there are a lot more.

For starters there is obviously the Alex Smith trade that has been discussed to death on this forum. I would add the signing of Pryor which was a disaster. One of things noted in the article is the extension of Gruden. IMO Allen basically has the same take as Dean - he wasn't extended since he did a good coaching job - it was simply a matter of stating that any issues "were not his fault" - great logic.

Please share your opinions about any other bad moves by Allen or God forbid if some of you believe that there were also good or great moves made by Allen. Hopefully this is something to look back at next season when he is either unemployed or working for another team.

Allen has no pros. But Allen is a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself. The problem, I believe, is that no FO executive worth his weight would come here to work under Snyder. So what we will get is either some puppet of Dan's that will continue the dysfunction or some unproven exec that is looking for this position as a stepping stone. The problem with this is that no top executive ever leaves here unscathed. This is the place that executives and head coaches come to see their careers die. Outside of McVey, I can't think of one person that was in a high position here that left and had success anywhere else. In fact, many never even become employed again by another franchise.

Perhaps but I believe that is mainly since they didn't hire the rt person in the first place. As I posted elsewhere they had their chance around 2000 when they had John Schneider on their staff, but they let him go & brought in Kindergarten Ninja (aka Vinny). Schneider is now one of the most successful execs in the NFL.

I still think that they can be successful (& yes a bit flawed) if they bring in a young SM type exec or even give full control to Williams, but they have to move quickly. I don't buy the whole take about nobody wanting to come to DC. There are only so many jobs in the NFL. Remember when Marty stated on TV that he would never work for Snyder & then was employed by him like a year later? Don't assume that anything is impossible.

Look - I would love to see Snyder go, but you know that will never happen. Anyhow - that was not my pt in creating this thread. I really want to get a clearer understanding of what Allen has done during his tenure with the Redskins (mainly or maybe all bad). Thanks.

Lets start with Donovan McNubb. Allen gets hired, hires Shanahan (I believe at the desire of Snyder) and Dan and Bruce go find Shanahan a QB he did not want. Clearly Kyle was frustrated with him. That is just the start … add on as you see fit.

Like I always have said Andy Reid gets a big smile on his face when Bruce and Dan call for a trade.

Bingo! Things like this IMO just make it obvious that Allen should be fired - not so much for what he has already done but what he is capable of doing moving forward. He is capable of not only not improving the team but actually making it worse. Will this result in Snyder making a related move? Who the hell knows.

The question is, if Snyder fired BA and lets say JG too, will the team be better? History says no.

Could it be worse? I guess we could go back to the 4-12 days. I sure do miss Spurrier.......:L

Vinny at least laughed at himself … on TV. My brother worked there when Vinny was there, he hated him.
