that's the funny part. he somehow thinks that LeClown and Kyrie would have free run in the paint. I ain't even gonna bring up coaching, because that was NO comparison...

the age stat and overrating is simply what Wiggy does...
Especially because the coach of the Cavs would be coming off the bench for the Lakers. Divided loyalty!

Klay would be a very reasonable matchup vs. Kobe---especially a prime Klay vs. a 22 year old Kobe. Fisher would get toasted by Curry. Draymond would just absolutely destroy a 35 year hold Grant. Durant vs. fucking Rick Fox? gmafb.

Shaq would be nearly unstoppable--- but his FT issues would hurt them and you just cant trade 2's for 3's.....LAkers do not have nearly enough shooting or scoring punch or depth.
Plus pace, the Ws would be running all over the place and tire Shaq out

2016 Cavs would beat the 2001 Lakers, let alone the 2017 Warriors.

Well the rules kinda play to that but they actually have some pretty good defenders. It doesnt matter much bc Kobe vs Lebron is tic for tac, Lebron being better. You have no guards to keep up with Kyrie. At least we have big bodies to put on Shaq...Mozgov. He was unstoppable but the rules dictate all matchups like this we compare. The Cavs and Warriors would be A LOT better with handchecking and the scoring would be toned down some. You think just bc the Lakers played in the times where you could handcheck they will be better...not so fast

The rules wouldn't matter as much in a Lakers/Cavs series as they would in a Warriors/Cavs series.

Under the 2001 rules, Shaq would beat up Mozgov, etc. physically. Hack-A-Shaq wouldn't work too well either, because when teams went to it too much, Shaq would get into a rhythm and start hitting them at a much better clip. It's why he's always said "I hit them when it matters".

Under "freedom of movement" they wouldn't be able to touch him or they'd end up on the bench in foul trouble every game. He may end up on the line even more, allowing him to get into a rhythm more often. This would make him even more unstoppable.

I would take 2001 Kobe guarding Kyrie all day. Kobe wouldn't shut him down, but Kyrie would have to work so hard to get his points that he would be far less effective and it would hurt the flow of the Cavs offense.

Lebron would be Lebron, the Lakers would throw a lot of different guys at him, which would make him work harder as well. But end of the day, he's Lebron, so there really wouldn't be any stopping him.

Because of Lebron, it would be competitive, but I think the Lakers would win in 6 relatively close games.

I will say though, that the current rules would help the Cavs some because Lebron going to the paint could get Shaq in foul trouble.

Lakers sweep EASY. They would beat the the previous years Warriors in 6 game though most likely. Warriors are overrated when comparing them to past all time great teams. Warriors look like hammered shit this year. Granted, they have missed some key players but still no excuse to look as bad as they have.

If they can't even beat the Raptors, they sure as shit aint beating the 2001 Lakers. They wouldn't even beat the 2002-2004 Lakers.

Shaq would avg something like 45/20 against these Warriors

Maybe this seasons warriors. Not the 73-9 team.

That team blew the finals with a big lead. . They wont beat the 2001 Lakers. The only Warriors team that MIGHT have a shot is the Warriors team from 2 years ago, but I would reckon the Lakers still win in 6-7 games

I am not sure I agree with this...

But, I do think the 2016 Cavs and '01 Lakers would have been a terrific series. Much closer than those Lakers and the current Warriors, IMO.

Mehh. No team from the past 15-20 years is beating the 2001 Lakers. Only team that would beat them are the 96/97 Bulls.

Theres a FEW teams that will push them 6-7 games sure (Spurs, Warriors, the Heat) . But no team since Jordan's Bulls are gonna nab 4 games on them.

People forget they played some REALLY good teams in the post season in 2001 and swept through everyone. Only reason the Sixers nabbed a game because the Lakers were so rusty with so many days off before the finals due to their dominating.

The '01 Sixers might have been the worst team to appear in the Finals in the last 40 years.

Yes, they played some good teams in the West playoffs. But, they were also somwhat overrated historically. Kobe and Shaq were great. But they don't belong in the coversation with the truly elite teams of all time.

That is, IMO:

86 Celtics
87 Lakers
96 Bulls
17 Warriors
19 Warriors?- i don't know. But they have a real shot at it.

Kidd's Nets team was the worst. All he had to do was sink a 15 foot wide open jumper and they might have won. The fact that one of the supposed best PG's in the league couldn't hit a wide open 15 foot jump shot makes them awful. His craptastic shooting form makes Gary Payton look like Steph Curry in crunch time.

What rules are we playing by in this mythical matchup because that matters. Also, the fact that in that era, the superstars were spread out makes a difference too. Pending on rules, both offenses would likely have their way,
so whoever controls the pace wins.
THAT Shaq would average 40-50, with a ton of assists. No disrespect to Klay, but 01 Kobe would dominate him. However to the other end, Kobe can only guard one person, so 2 of the 3 of Curry, Klay, and KD would have their way.
So it goes down to pace, if it's run n gun, the warriors win. If it's slow pace, walking up and down the floor, the lakers win.

that Sixers team was awful- but some of those Nets teams were pretty bad too- while I agree with most of this post- and that the Sixers team was very mediocre, those Nets teams were pretty mediocre as well. The 07 Cavs were very mediocre as well for a Finals team- VERY. lol....

That team Iverson and whole lot of nothing else. Hard to say which was worse, that team or the team that Lebron dragged to the finals in his first stint in Cleveland.

That '01 Lakers team should be ashamed of themselves. I mean, you're 1 game from having swept your way to the title and your 1 loss is to that team? :L

Yep.

Those are the other 2 I have on my short list.

I do think the '18 Cavs were better than the '07 version, but not by much.

lol....whoa now......not even close

dude. that '07 team was horrendous-- if certain players got to double digit points, it was a huge boost.

The Cavs had an all star in Love, another former All Star and great shooter in Korver, TT, ....that ALONE is enough.

like George Hill, Jeff Green, Clarkson - those guys would be better than just about anyone on that 07 team besides LeBron.

Yeah, I do think you're right here.

Who was the 2nd best player on that 07 Cavs team?

Donyell Marshall?

Boobie Gibson?

That team was awful.

The 07 Finals team might be Bron's most impressive accomplishment. It was like the 2017 Bulls plus Lebron, and he dragged them to the finals.
