Voting a team in is even more bullshit. Auto bids are the only way to go because everything else is nothing more than a beauty contest where people vote for the team they like .... just because.

It's not a beauty contest right now.

And the method you speak of promotes weak schedules and conferences as Washington with 3 losses is what your system considers "playoff material".

That’s why you put in provisions. Can’t be more than 2 losses, need to be ranked in the top 8 or 10 and SoS needs to be in the top whatever. If any of that doesn’t matchup then it goes to a wildcard. Kinda like we have now.

If it is they need to be ranked in the top 8, why not just have the top 8 in the playoffs.

Then say top 6. It doesn’t have to be 8. If you really want to keep it at 4. (I’m on the fence both ways at that btw) But there is literally a way to make this work with conference champions getting bids. Hell we basically had it this year.

I don't see what's so devestating about Washington making it.

They lost two league games and bothered to play someone with a pulse OOC. They could've gone the Baylor route and only had two losses.

Definitely fair points.

But would you really think someone with 3 loses is the best team in nation?

Where do you draw the line? Had Northwestern won the B1G should they have been in automatically above a team like Georgia? 0-3 non conference but went 8-1 in conference?

If you can win three straight against the very best the country has to offer I don't see why not.

I get that the uniqueness of college football has been some of its appeal but the persuit of perfection is what is leading to these garbage out of conference schedules.

As I've said I think eliminating divisions will kill some of that (I can't recall a single time this has ever happened before NW and it just speaks to how imbalanced the BIG is) but could see some provision of forcing a potentially higher ranked team with a worse conference record in over a team like NW

I got nothing for the ACC this year. Just garbage and mediocrity after Clemson.

Absolutely. I’ve been pushing for no divisions for the last two years.

ACC, SEC, B1G play 8 conference games, mandatory 2 P5/ND games in OOC, three protected conference rivals (different for every single team) with the other ten teams in the conference in two pools of that alternate every year.

PAC12 (and Big12 if they ever go to 12) same scheduling as the ACC, SEC, B1G but they have two protected rivals, and three pools of 3 teams and they play two pools every year.

Big12 plays 9 conference games, 1 P5/ND mandatory OOC game. Play everyone.

Top two in every conference plays in CCG.

Meh....You're using that beauty contest right now. Going the 8 team system, the only part to nug out is which conferences gets the auto bid and who gets in with the eye test. But if the power conferences decide Washington is their champ with their rules, I'm good with them being there to represent.

The SEC may just find out they ain't all of that.

Some kind of balanced scheduling would be helpful imo

Exactly.

If it's truly a national playoff it should reflect that imo.

Going to 8 team system is just going to result in more SEC Championship games like last year.

The more teams you add, the more often you are going to see it. You guys never learn.

Also, if your conference champion can't make the top8, there is probably a good reason for it. - They suck.

The Big12 has the most fair system for a conference champion currently (even though the CCG is stupid). But no conference is going to kick teams out so they can lose money. Outside of that it would standardized for the rest of the conferences, everyone plays 10 P5 opponents minimum, plus you would have more interconference play which is desperately needed now.

acc and sec are ruling the 4 team format and i'm sure it's beginning to piss off the other 3 power conferences so i'm sure there's some steam behind this building ....

I’d like to see what it’d look like if all P5’s went to 8 conference games or 9.

I don’t think it’s going to change how teams are actually playing in the playoffs. They aren’t better because they play an 8 game schedule, they are better because they are better.
