I think they're only called 'pickles' in Nebraska. Everywhere else they're called "pull tabs".
Reason being they were originally sold out of pickle jars.

Most reports I've seen say anywhere from 2-4 inches. But my guess is that it's less than that now with this weather. I'm not holding my breath that it will happen, but planning on it if the ice is good.
