this is irrelevant.

BUt I was looking at making my draft kings lineups for this weekend. What stood out to me right off the bat was Tom Brady's price. Draft kings is smart, they know how ppl have been playing, history, projections etc. His price is LOWWWWWWW. i know he hasnt been great, but was good last week. He kills pgh, and we stink. ben was a good bit more than him, alot of qb's were.

Also gronk, his price dropped for this game, again, showed finally healthy last week, and he feasts on us. The only Pat with a normal price point was edelman. white, michel, gordon, all down. Its just very odd.

Its like they know something we dont. Like pgh is gonna come out world beating..........

the steelers have absolutely no shot in this game, it's going to be another ass-raping at the hands of the patriots.

I'm giving them a shot only because they do have the weapons on OFC to make plays, they have to be desperate now, and at home...if they lose 4 at home, everybody in the building that impacts the play on the field (not name Rooney) should be concerned about their job.

i'm not. belichick is going against a coach and staff that has more trouble with him and his staff, than seemingly any other coaching staff in the league. belichick is the master of in-game adjustments, and taking away what the other team wants to try and do, and the steelers are the absolute worst at altering the game plan to take what the defense will give. it's going to be a beatdown; if i'm wrong and somehow a miracle occurs sunday afternoon, i'll gladly be back on here eating crow, but i know i'm not wrong.

I feel ya, and trust me, I have next to zero confidence in a win, but gotta play it out. Hargrave could fall on Brady in a bad way, something bizzare...it's a football game.

Good points.

My response.

Blame...agree, it's not all MT. One point I hear a lot is the talent, and I'm not all that excited about the talent on DEF at all. Burns, Sensabaugh, Burnett, Davis, Edmunds, Fort...of the top 12-13 guys on DEF, these guys listed would struggle start or in a couple of cases struggle to even make the 53 on the other 31 teams. Yet they have logged major snaps for PIT.

Secondly, when players leave PIT, aside from Sanders in DEN, not many recent players are going on to success with other teams.

Now...I'll say this...I don't know if Tomlin/Butler get the most out of the talent they do have. Either you thrive in the system, or you suck...they don't seem to be able to tweak the scheme to best fit the players.

Record...just taking a snapshot from '14 to date...PIT has won at least 10 games every season. When you really start drilling down, there are not very many quality wins. When was the last time PIT won a game that you didn't think they were the better team?

For me it would be the '14 season vs DEN...they beat DEN in the regular season, but were eliminated by Manning/DEN in the playoffs. The Broncos DEF caught fire that season and Manning did just enough to win games...that was a better squad and the last time I remember that happening.

Finally...Tomlin was best as an overseer, CEO type HC. He wanted more input with the DEF, he got more input with the DEF, the DEF stinks and it has for the last 2 seasons. I think the Steeler DEF scheme is in part Tomlin's and I don't think it's very effective against the better QBs in the league and the record in those games bears that out.

The best word that I can use to describe this organization for me right now is baffling. It's baffling to me that we were able to embarrass a Panthers team that looked VERY good on Thursday night football but can't beat the Broncos or Raiders who are nowhere near playoff teams and haven't been all season. But, for as long as I've been a Steelers fan, that's been Steelers football and "that's what we do." We play down to bad teams and play up to good teams. That is 100% coaching. No denying that and that doesn't work for anyone anymore. It gets tiring and has gotten tiring.

Maybe the answer isn't getting rid of Tomlin, maybe the answer is getting his hands out of the defense and let the DC control it. But that only changes the playcalling. That doesn't do anything for Boswell's leg, Ben's accuracy, the stupid mistakes we make on defense and the fact that the talent in our secondary, like you accurately stated, would struggle to get a starting job on any other team in the NFL. We've drafted defensively in the first round in each of the last 6 years and only 2, in my opinion, have worked out for us. Shazier and Watt. It's too soon to judge Edmunds right now, but Jarvis, Dupree and Artie are/were disappointing in my opinion.

My questions for fans that seriously want to get rid of Mike Tomlin are:

Who would you replace him with right now?
Are you okay with taking a chance on another coach with the high possibility of us ending up worse than we've ever been with Tomlin?

My mindset? At least we know, with his history, we will more than likely end up with a 9-7 season and a division title, but not making it far in the playoffs. We replace him with anyone and we don't know what we are getting. Could be better, definitely, but there is more room for error with a new coach for this team that has averaged 10.5 wins a year with Tomlin as head coach, only behind Belichick for average wins in that time span among active coaches, than there is for improvement in my opinion.

Final thoughts, I think we need to make organizational changes in the Front Office, we need to change how we draft and how we treat the offseason and the period before the trade deadline before we start replacing coaches. There are fundamental things with this organization that we being done as if it's still the 70s and 80s and expecting that stuff to work in 2018-2019. The times and the game of football is changing. It's time for us to change with it. LA changed by getting a young coach, KC changed by giving the ball to a young QB, NO change by adopting a two-back system, Chicago changed by changing how they treated the draft and signings/trades, Philly changed by trading away the rest of their future for Carson Wentz and treating him as a priority by getting him the weapons he needed to lead them to a Super Bowl. They never did that with Vick or McNabb. Teams that haven't changed, Us, Seattle, the Giants, the Packers, we are all sitting in a funk because the game is passing us by and we are still expecting things that worked 1-2 decades ago to work now.

Adapt or perish and right now, we are doing the latter.

More than coaching has been a problem this season. No question Ben has been sloppy at times, Boz kicking woes, and just missed opportunity plays...just last week, 2 INTs were dropped. DEF scheme has also hurt them though and that's 100% on the coaches.

Tomlin out of the DC room...that mandate would need to come from Mr. Rooney...sort of save your job type conversation. You need to hire another DC and let him do the job. Depending on the hire, I can see that happening for Ben's last yr.

Replacement...my top 3 choices...David Shaw, Stanford HC....second, Dan Campbell, Saints TE Coach. Assuming he could figure out the OC hire...Jim Schwartz, current DC, PHI.

There is something to be said for never having a losing record, and a comfort level feeling like you have a legit chance to win your DIV every season...Tomlin does bring that to the table, but the worst thing you can be in pro sports is mediocre. At this point, with Ben nearing the end of his career. I'm willing to take the chance of being worse a yr or 2 under a new HC.

Agree on FO changes for FA and the draft...some of the draft is just a by-product of where you are drafting, but the overall approach to the draft could use some tweaking...right now they should be more aggressive.

Steelers are gonna need some serious help from the refs in this game lol.

So if the NFL is concerned about leaving Steelers Nation revenue off the table for the postseason then maybe "the fix is in"?

I know this is more wishful thinking than anything, or I've just lost it, but in spite of BB's mastery over Tomlin, for some reason I think this will be a close game. I just don't think the NE DEF is much better than PIT's, they're rated higher, but if (here we go with the guarded language again), emphasize IF, the OL plays well, the OFC should have a decent game.

Watch this game come down to yet another controversial ref decision... But this time goes in PIT's favor since "they owe them one".

Well I had some hope that we might see Gilbert finally get his ass back on the field for this important stretch of games... No dice.

With Feiler emerging as a decent option and improving week to week, Gilbert may be seeing his days as a Steeler come to a close. $930k dead hit if they cut him this offseason. Chump change.

The Steelers have a very good chance because the Patriots D looked like puke against the Dolphins runners and Ryan "Joe Montana" Tannehill!!!

Let's see if the D plays better than that!

If you think the Patriots D looked bad just remember the Steelers Defense lost to John Gruden and the Raiders...

The only saving grace is that the Patriots defense looked really bad against Miami last week. Maybe we can take advantage of that. I doubt it, but maybe we can.

Christopher L. Gasper: If the Patriots don’t beat the Steelers, we’ll know there’s something really wrong - The Boston Globe

Solving the New York Times crossword puzzle while simultaneously manning the wheel in rush-hour traffic is easier than figuring out this version of the Patriots. It’s probably less frustrating, too. The Patriots defense defies categorization. The offense seems slightly askew like a picture hanging on the wall you keep adjusting to no avail. The bedrock of the team’s success, situational football superiority, went haywire in horrifying fashion in an all-time loss to Miami last week.

It’s disorienting. But we’ll really know there is something flawed about this iteration of the Patriots if they don’t beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Heinz Field. Playing this opponent in this spot is a tailor-made bounce-back game and confidence booster for the Patriots. It’s one a Patriots team wins. Coming off the Miracle of Miami, the Steelers are the perfect antidote for the Patriots because they’re the anti-Patriots.

The Patriots maximize their talent, adjust their game plans to outfox opponents, and keep the distractions to a minimum. The Steelers annually fail to capitalize on arguably the league’s most talented roster. They stubbornly just do what they do against every team, believing their talent will carry the day; routinely make mistakes with the game on the line, and harm themselves with silly self-generated controversies and internal backbiting.
