Make an argument for other players. Hell, he may be the best all around TE.

Gronk and Gonzalez I think are easily better.

Gates is better but it's closer.

Then you can get into the old school guys and that becomes a mess thanks to the differences in era.

Gronk can’t stay healthy. Gates couldn’t block.

Wise to say that yoda even though you never saw them. First of all Jerry Smith was very progressive and a top TE for the Redskins back in the 70s. His stats stood or a very long time in a different era. He would have been in the HOF except for the fact he was thought to be gay. John Mackey and Mike Ditka came from a very different era but both were great players. What about Kellen Winslow? I am sure I am forgetting some too.

I'll give you 5 excellent reasons why this must be done now.

1. Sam Bradford

2. Paxton Lynch

3. Matt Moore

4. Ryan Mallet

5. He's better than Colt already, rust or not!

What do these QB's have to do with Kaep?

Gronk doesn't need to stay healthy to be a top 3 TE of all-time. He's that far-and-away the most physically gifted and productive when he is healthy - that it doesn't matter.

They were the reported choices that the team considered signing to back up McCoy.

The most important stat is availability. I love Gronk and he is probably my favorite player in the league. I agree he is physically gifted and productive when healthy...what good is that when he is sidelined?

LMAO @ the salt pill ….. man what we didn't know back then.

6-4 with Alex. Not bad but not his doing. Well that is not entirely true since he didn't throw many picks but why would he when he is dumping the ball off most of the time. Cousin's had a terrible game last Sunday and he still out performed Smith.

Colt had an average game at best 6-12 for 50ish yards but he did help them score twice. One time had a lot to do with the field position that Smith (no longer on the milk carton) got them. Colt did however throw a 30 yard pass into double coverage when a 12 yard pass to anyone in a Redskin uniform down the middle of the field was the play to make.
How about that concussion protocol of our era: Q: How many fingers can you count? A: 5. Here, smell this (remember smelling salts?) and you are fine. Get back in there!

Tony had his ups and downs, but his last couple of seasons he was a top 5 guy. I think he probably believes if he had started over Dak at the end of their 13-3 with Zeke, Written, Dez and a great OL, they might have made the SB. He would be rusty, but no more so than Kaep would be, but Romo was twice the player and would pick up the playbook ten times faster

He played in what? 5 or 6 games total his last two years. How's that top 5? Or are you talking about the years before that when he wasn't hurt and the Cowboys were really busy not winning a mothafuckin thang ever.

Peyton Manning? He of the 9 TDs/17 INTs, under 7 ypa, under 60% completion abd playing so shitty he was benched, All the while taking phantom sacks and waffling passes of 20-25 yards with regularity. That Manning?

Bret Favre......I can't even go there.

Kaepeernick would be a terrible choice imo. Full on terrible. But its a helleva lot more reasonable, at least imo, to believe he still has some skills as opposed to the above mentioned former QBs..

Romo would be better than any of those guys, and a Hell of a lot better than CK. Trust me, I don't want y'all to go after what would be a rusty but healthy Romo. I couldn't be happier that the Skins went with butt fumble

I doubt Kap would want to play here .We have a controversial Logo/Team Name and an Owner that donated to the Trump Campaign. For what he stands for, it doesn't seem he'd want to be here.

I mean, at this point - isn't this just as much of a question pertaining to what he's been up to football wise over the past 1.5 years? How committed he still is to it? How rusty he'd be after not participating in any team activities for that time - even if he is still individually committed?... etc...

Yep, for sure, however, given the stats and not W-L records while each played Kaep's numbers are far and away more impressive than any of the others. Ultimately they signed Butt-Fumble and a quick comparison will tell anyone that they settled for shit with flies and peanuts over a regular turd. Kaepernick continues to say that he want to play, so I'm pretty sure he's working out and would only have to reacquaint himself with the rigors of the game.

As for Kaepernick, here are his stats:

In 2016 – his final year in San Francisco – Kaepernick tallied a 90.7 quarterback rating while throwing 16 touchdowns and four interceptions with an average of 7.2 yards per attempt through 12 games. He averaged 6.8 yards per rush while tallying 468 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Career wise he's completed 1,011 passes out of 1,692 attempts (59.8%) for 12,271 yards and 7.25 yards per attempt. He has 72 touchdowns and 30 Ints. with a passer rating of 88.9

By comparison, Sanchez has a career rating of 73.9 while throwing as many interceptions (86) as he has touchdowns. He's completed 1,295 passes out of 2,285 (56%) for 15,219 yards. That's 6.7 yards per toss and a passer rating of 73.9. He's rushed 169 times for 449 yards 13 Touchdowns and 51 fumbles.

And for good measure here are Colt McCoy's:

McCoy is 7–18 all-time as a starter with 27 touchdowns and 23 interceptions to his name. He's completed 514 passes out of 854, netting 5,640 yards and a passer rating of 79.1. He's run the ball 118 times for420 yards and 2 touchdowns.

How is it that our fans are forgetting about the great Jerry Smith?

BTW: as blockers go, our own Rick "Doc" Walker and Don Warren has to be among the very best.

Manning was injured...not benched. Manning then comes in and wins a Super Bowl. When Brady is carried by the defense, he is celebrated...when Manning does it, it is frowned upon. Gimpy Manning wins SB...his replacement comes in and they have a top five pick?
