I've noticed a lot of people (AP, Coaches' Poll & SportsHoopla) have started to put Pitt in their Top 25. I know they've been on something of a run lately, but it seems most people haven't looked at their whole body of work. Being the least-bad team in the worst division (ACC Coastal) of P-5 football is not a good enough reason to rank them, in my opinion.

The close loss to ND is what's doing it, even though they were absolutely throttled by UCF and Penn State. Good for them for scheduling a monster OOC though.

Throttled by Penn state, throttled by UCF, they’re the only d1 win UNC has this year. And their best wins are 7-4 Duke and Syracuse who is only ranked because of games they lost.

The ACC is the worst power 5 conference in the country and Pitt doesn’t deserve to be ranked. They’re schedule is worse than Cincinnati’s and their record is worse.

That's a pretty dumb thing to say.

You’re right. I should’ve said if you replace two gimme games on Cincinnati’s schedule with a blow out loss to Penn state and a loss to Notre Dame then they’re very comparable. 7-4 Penn state and 7-4 Cincy (with losses to Notre Dame and Penn state) are pretty similar teams. Why does Penn State get the bonus points for losing games Cincinnati can lose to?

You're confusing the shit out of me. Are you trying to compare a 7-4 Penn State and a 7-4 Cincy?

Cincinnati is 9-2. My point is that Pitt shouldn’t be ranked just for losing to Notre Dame and Penn State, because anyone can lose those games. If Cincy had lost those games instead of winning games against cupcakes nobody would consider ranking them

I hear ya but there are a lot of teams that look overranked to me...not just the last of the 25. Someone has to be in the top 25.

Once you get past about 10, there are a bunch of warts. We have a lot of teams with at least 4 warts on them.

There seems to be a lot of competition for that award this year.

Pittsburgh also has wins over 1 other ranked team and three 7-4 ACC teams. Cincy's beaten nobody.

Syracuse, Duke, UVA, etc. are no better than South Florida, SMU and UCLA. And Pitts loss to UNC is worse than the temple loss

Yeah, the acc is really bad. The coastal is 7-10 out of conference against FBS teams. The AAC is 7-11 out of conference against POWER 5 opponents. The acc is 3-11 against power 5 schools (Duke and Clemson are the only acc teams to win out of conference against a power 5 school). It’s not unreasonable to think UCLA or SMU would beat Virginia or Syracuse, despite their record.
