I recall the big knock on that trade was the fallout the following spring training when it was revealed that Pineda had something wrong with his elbow or shoulder. But even with missing that time, Pineda ended up being worth 100 Montero's.

Meh, Pineda was pretty worthless in his own right, but at least he's had a career-as mediocre as it may be.

And Montero was proof once again that there's no such thing as a can't miss prospect.

In hindsight, I wish they would have been able to complete the deal in 2010 for Cliff Lee. No telling what the 2010 and 2011 Yanks might have done with him in the rotation.

How many times have the Yankees bent the Mariners over in a trade?

Too many #@$^ing times to count .. Were like a minor league organization to the Yankees, and it's #@$^@#$^ ... Owners just don't care about winning and that's been the Mariners baseball way for a dam long time... Griffey, trade, Randy, trade, Tino, trade.... You could give the Mariners every dam all-star in the league and the Mariners would trade them all away for prospects and laugh at the fans and have bobblehead Ichiro night ...

Overall I think it's a fair trade for both sides.

Many Mariners fans thought that we'd get more for Paxton, but he's a pitcher who is dominant when healthy. When he's on the mound, he is IMO one of the more dominant pitchers in baseball. But the issue is he has never pitched more than 160 innings in a season and is 30 years old.

If Paxton somehow remains healthier than he has ever been in his career, it's a steal for the Yankees. If he pitches 130-160 innings, it's a fair trade for both sides.

It makes sense for both franchises. The Mariners have the worst farm system in baseball, and they receive a guy who projects as a #2 or #3 pitcher, a guy who projects as a #4 or #5 pitcher and an outfielder who put up great numbers in the minors.

The Mariners are looking at contending in 2020 or 2021 (lol), it makes sense to make this trade for two guys who are major league ready an outfielder who showed some promise in 2018. For a team devoid of young talent who will not make the playoffs in 2019, I'm not unhappy with the trade. Would I have preferred Paxton and another blue chip prospect? Definitely. But it makes sense that a team wouldn't be willing to give that up for Paxton.

Mariners fans expected more, but it's a good trade for both organizations.

It's what we always do though, we always trade good players for prospects and it's getting ?@#$@ old ... He's been our ace, we should keep him, sign him and move forward with our draft picks, Mariners don't keep good players that's there problem, they pay huge money for like 1 all star guy, and to hell with the rest of them, prospect, prospects prospect ... that's been going on since I was a kid with this @#^@#^ worthless organization ...

Don't listen to Cerealgurl. He desperately needs this trade to be a Mariners failure. I'm a bawstun antagonist and he lusts for payback.
When I mention the Mariners getting bent over, every Mariners fan brings up a trade that happened 30 years ago. This is the team that traded for Montero . . . . errr Monstero for serviceable but pinetar cheating Pineda.

Mariners also gave up fan favorite Ichiro for a couple of duds. I'm sure this trade will blow up in their faces as well.
Ichiro. That's all you got? A 37 year old who could no longer hit more than .270, with no power, playing a corner outfield. Right. Yeah that trade really hurt. Big mistake.

Hope he can stay healthy. He's fun to watch when he's right but something always seems to happen which causes him to miss a few weeks.
As for the deal itself, no idea. It seems like a reasonable return. Paxton is 30 with only 2 years of control left so I wasnt expecting a huge haul. Just somewhat relieved that Mariners are finally admitting they arent contenders in the AL and can move forward somewhat.
Paxton is gutless. New York is going to destroy him.

Tino Martinez for Sterling Hitchcock? That one didn't pan out too well either.

James Pazos for something called a Zack Littell
Ben Gamel for a couple of skids still trying to climb out of A ball.
Danny Farquar for Ichiwashedup. That's a draw at worse and a Mariner win in reality.

Dustin Ackley?
Brendan Ryan?
Shawn Kelly?

LOL. Yankees screwing the Mariners in trades is a cute myth with no bite.

Well don't tell me. It's MD that said that Cashman wipes his ass on the Mariners every other year or so. He also said you don't know shit about motorcycles or guns. Or ducks.

Well, MD is a Californian now. A person loses 10 points a year off their IQ for every year they live in California and he's been there three years now, so....

Dustin Ackley!

Damn, another one I was dead wrong about. Thought he would win multiple batting titles. Is even still in the game?

Paxton had a 3.67 ERA in a pitchers' park. Think that will improve in Yankee Stadium? Especially with the short porch in RF?

Other factors might be at play, because Paxton's 2018 ERA doesn't matchup with his other stats, since he was top 10 in the AL in WHIP, K/BB, K/9, BAA, and OPS against.

Him being top 10 in those categories combined with his 3.23 FIP likely indicates that he was hurt by the Mariners defense....

So with a better defense than what he's had, it's very possible he puts up a better ERA.

The similarities between Paxton and Ackley should concern Yankee fans. Million dollar talent, but over-thinking everything. The first time the media/fan base turns on Paxton, there will be a problem. When Paxton loses his confidence, it stays lost for multiple starts. I won't be surprised if his splits heavily favor the road games.

I don't know how much Yankee baseball you watched in 2018, but the Yanks were pretty dreadful defensively as well.

Why I like Paxton's K%. Less balls put into play the better.

Yep. Sonny is going to go to some obscure franchise (Tampa, San Diego) and quietly restore his career. I doubt if he is ever again as good as he was in 2014 and 2015, but he should improve over what we saw this season.

No, that trade changed the direction of both teams. Had that trade not happened the Mariners had the dynasty not the Yankees. It wasn’t just Tino, it was Jeff Nelson then we got Russ Davis forcing out Mike Blowers.

Jeff Nelson? Mike Blowers? You're going full retard here...

Jeff Nelson had more mediocre/poor seasons in NY than quality season, and here you are acting like he was Andrew Miller in the Yankee dynasty years.

And Mike Blowers was nothing special (look at what he did after 1995)...but you're acting like the M's traded away George Brett because they were forced to play Davis.
