54-51...........High School basketball score.

Both of these teams lost on the road against two teams that were playing as much defense as is allowed in the NFL. Mahomes has been allowed to just stand back and throw as has Goff. Like watching 7 on 7 in high school where there is no threat to the QB, only DBs.

Prediction..................Both teams lose their first playoff games at home because the officials will allow defense to be played because the "Fantasy" season will be over.
Chiefs would benefit GREATLY from being able to mug people on defense. IIRC they play Man Coverage schemes more than anyone and if you let them play physical then they'll mug you all the way down the line.

The way I'm worried the Chiefs will lose is that Joe Anybody can score 35+points on their defense and if Mahomes has a couple of turnovers then its over.

The pick 6 is still really bad. The Chiefs probably win that game 2/3 of the time if he doesn't throw.

I also haven't said a single thing about the refs. Im getting sloppy in my old age. Still keeping my avatar up, though. Chiefs never seem to get the Steelers bump from the black and white.
The pick 6 was a great play by the LB. I won't fault Mahomes for it.

It was a good play yes, but the footwork made it possible- so I’ll hit Mahomes for it since he’s the QB and is accountable for mistakes.
Sometimes you just have to give credit to the other guy and I'm giving credit where credit is due.

I don't think its irrelevant. I don't think the NFL would mess with its product if it didn't think a star player is going to die on the field at some point. The player health stuff is way more serious and it does turn the product into something more like the NBA but thats easier to brand so they probably see it as a win/win.

You probably remember that the Niners dynasty started with a goal line stand. Most people nowadays probably only remember Joe Montana.

Of course it's irrelevant to my point. My point is one of entertainment value only...and this arena league, point-a-minute style of football is not entertaining to me when it's more the norm. Especially a game filled with all the penalties and turnovers. I don't care much about all the records and the hype and whatnot.

What if they simply make it flag football, and scores are in the 70's/80's? Does that make it even more entertaining? I imagine to some people, it would.....

I'm saying it doesn't for myself.

This isn't college.

I wasn't impressed, nor was I entertained. I saw two very good/great offenses...in an era where defense is outlawed. This is basically the exact opposite of the game in the mid/late 70's where everything was defense......it dulls the product. Most people seem to like the pinball/arena garbage - a lot of that is fantasy football influence - so the league will cater to their interests, but I like an equal balance.

I'm a Seahawk fan and I loved watching our historic defense keep the scores low a couple years ago when they were dominant. But, even though I do appreciate a great defensive game there is nothing wrong with an anomaly like we witnessed last night where it becomes an outright shootout. The league has made it far easier for offenses to score, and for QB's to put up huge numbers, so in that regard I agree with you that they are dulling the product. I also agree with you that it is influenced by the massive amounts of people playing fantasy football. Where I disagree with you is when you said you weren't impressed or entertained. How anyone could watch that offensive and defensive (remember there were 3 TD's scored on defense) display and not be impressed or entertained is beyond me. I was duly impressed with both Goff and Mahomes, and I was thoroughly entertained as well. The major blemish on this game was the 21 accepted penalties.

I wasn't impressed for several reasons. Again....this shit is now more the norm. Put it this way....I believe they broke the MNF record set by GB/Wash in 1983, when that game was 48-47. That was a far more entertaining game because it was obviously more rare. There were less mistakes....far less turnovers and penalties. A lot of that consisted of passes that needed to be pinpoint for success.

Last night there were tons of receivers running free, uncontested and wide open. That gets boring...quickly. It seemed like the very, very few times either team played defense...that resulted in a turnover. Sure, a lot of this is based on quality offensive talent....but at the end of the day, the game today is far too one-sided for my liking.

Well, you might as well stop watching the NFL immediately because this is where it is going. Most people find that type of game that we saw last night to be highly entertaining and so that is what the league is going to give them

Oh I don't follow it near as much as I used to. The actual product on the field has been in decline for a while now, AFAIC.

In terms of entertainment value, I have this as the third most interesting Chiefs game this year behind the @Broncos game and the @New England game.

The narratives in this game were lacking and the points were coming a bit too easy. I'm seeing talking heads saying its one of the best regular season games of all time and I think thats the LA market talking, the fantasy football appeal and the appeal to newer fans.

Even if that ball wasn't tipped and picked, I'm not sure there was any chance of it getting to the receiver. He threw it awkwardly, without even facing the receiver properly, and right at the right tackle on a downward plane. It looked like it would've either hit the lineman (penalty) or fallen short.

Best part of the game for me (other than the nervous win) was that LA seems to be finally building their fan base up. Great to see a packed house of enthusiastic fans for the home team. Can't wait for the new stadium...

Exactly. It's just not a good throw- and it starts with footwork. Mahomes generally has a strong enough arm where he can get away with that, but clearly not on that particular play.

I've noticed in the past few weeks, mahomes is taking more and more chances ... don't know if he's getting a little too cocky and thinks he can do anything he wants but it is something to note .... 5 turnovers in one game should be a wake up call but he is young and may feel invincible

I think it's kinda dubious to pin all 5 of those turnovers on him just watching the game. Wasn't as though he was chucking interceptable ball after interceptable ball and was just completely oblivious to the rush down to down.

Outside of the pick 6, it's kinda tough for me to get after him. Looked more like a shit happens type game to me. You don't throw 6 TD's in a game you suck in. The turnovers are more the Rams making timely plays and the Chiefs interior just being way overmatched 1v1 with Donald.

He didn't exactly get to stand around and order room service all night. Pressure was there and it showed. As I thought it might.

So one wet dream game down, still would like to see Houston play either of these 2.

I'm not sure I fully agree with that narrative.

I thought he was basically a game manager against Arizona which is why he took so many sacks.

I buy he's throwing tighter throws, that sorta kinda correlates with Watkins being out, however. Have to make tougher throws if there's not an easy throw available.

Its night and day looking at a Rams game and a Chargers game.

You saw a lot of red yesterday but not nearly what you'd see in a Chargers game. Its a big win for LA and the Rams for being LA's team.
