I saw a team called the Kansas City Chiefs play the Los Angeles Rams, but it didn't look anything like the football played by my team, the Eagles.... :noidea::noidea::noidea:

Seriously now, if you are an NFL football coach watching that, you have to know that the game has changed, right? You simply can't beat some of the current teams, like the Rams, Saints or Chiefs, unless you have a wide-open scheme, aggressive offensive coordinator and are capable of scoring at least 30 PPG.

The talk radio guys here in Houston were joking that last night's game was not even the same sport Bill O'Brien coaches. It's funny but actually true. I think about 3/4ths of NFL teams have no shot to win anymore. They will need to fire their offensive coordinators and re-think their approach to football, based on the way the rules are changing and the game's Xs and Os are evolving.

Thoughts?

Here's a thought: Don't "Big Twelvify" the NFL

Too late for that I am afraid. The Big 12-ification of the NFL is here and they are not going back.

Apparently. I live in Memorial.

I don't listen to Josh Ennis, who yes, got fired from Philly. I listen to Seth Payne, the former DT, who actually almost beat up Ennis once during a fracas on radio row at a Super Bowl or something.

The game is changing. This is now football. In all honesty, last nights game looked a lot like the last SB. Neither team could stop the other till the end. The big difference last night were the turnovers. Lots more last night than in the SB. Other than that I thought the two games were very similar.

Thing is, both defenses made big plays last night. Just not a lot of actual stops, or three and outs and punts. Roger Goodell probably wet his panties watching that shit.

Agreed. The difference with the SB were the long drives, conversion of third downs, etc.

The times are changing ... There are definitely a handful of teams that can torch any defense and you have to figure they will be the favorites in January

Defenses usually catch up. Remember when Buffalo was the hot, new offensive style that nobody could handle? They tore through the AFC for nearly a decade.

Well, I enjoyed the shit out of last nights game. It had big offensive plays, big defensive plays, etc. Even though both teams scored over 50, there was some great defense mixed in there.

To the op’s point... I agree the x’s & o’s are evolving. Today’s game comes down to coaching. The margin between most teams is minimal. When looking at the Rams, Chiefs and Saints, they all have elite speed and innovative coaching. That is the difference between those 3 teams and the rest of the league. Having a QB that can deliver the ball helps as well.

and still couldn't win a SB, go figure.

Exactly. Even then, a great defense would shut them down. The most points they scored in a SB was 24, against Washington.

It does remind me alot of arena football. back in 2001 i lived in tampa and bought season tickets to the tampa bay storm. those were fun times.

ive never really seen until recently in college..the whole teams lines up..then the whole team looks at the sidelines for the play. that is still kinda weird to me
also still trying to figure out how that isn't a false start..i guess they dont come to a complete stop

Some good points...but I'm a big believer that nothing in football is really that new. The rules have continued to push more and more in favor of the OFC. Imagine if Dan Fout's Chargers, Marino with Duper/Clayton, or the Jim Kelly led Bills played under the same rules...we might've already seen a 6,000 yd season!

Last night was more of a perfect storm, more aberration than the norm...two great OFCs vs two pretty avg (if we're being honest) DEFs, great weather.

I don't think there will be any great DEFs in this playoff. Because of that, any of the top teams could score 35+ and still lose.
