Week 10 Recap (Part 1-Everything sucks!)

You know, sometimes you really don't like recapping college football. And thanks to Alabama, today is one of those times. Not only did Alabama's defense chooses NOW (of all the times) to return to form, but a fan favorite like Florida would lose to Missouri.

Other fan favorites to lose were Kentucky and Nebraska and Virginia Tech and Utah and Iowa and Syracuse and Michigan and
GAHHHHHHHH!!! [thump]

Week 10 Recap (Part 2- Wait... everything doesn't suck)

*Huff...* *Puff...* ...Oh, that's right. Syracuse didn't lose yesterday, so they have their first winning season since 2013. And how did I forget that Michigan actually clobbered Penn State?
... :L Oh, man. Is Alabama really driving me THIS crazy?

Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech - Play-By-Play - November 3, 2018 - ESPN I mean, I was almost as crazy as this game was in Lubbock...

West Virginia vs. Texas - Box Score - November 3, 2018 - ESPN ...AND this game in Austin. Combined.

Week 10 Recap (Part 3- Everyone else)

And in my madness, I managed to recap what happened in the Top 25. Still a little mad about Utah, but oh well. Let's go ahead and see what else happened yesterday:

PAC-12: Wait, what? Tyler Huntley got knocked out for the rest of the year in that ASU loss? Man! So sorry to hear that.
That wasn't the only big thing to go down; Washington State fought off the Cal Bears in a close game (just like I predicted), and UCLA is back to sucking. And that's about it-
Stanford vs. Washington - Game Summary - November 3, 2018 - ESPN Wait. THIS game happened? I barely even noticed it!

ACC: Duke just got to bowl eligibility before Miami did... by beating Miami in Miami! What... the f--k?

Big 12: Everything from the Big 12 was fun yesterday! Even Baylor (who beat OK State) and TCU (who held off Kansas State) was able to join in for a few laughs.

Sun Belt: App. State and Troy kept it together in their big games, but Georgia Southern crashed and burned against UL-Monroe. Ouch.

SEC: ...At least South Carolina and Ole Miss gave us a fine offensive show.

Mountain West: It ranged from the dominant (Utah State and Fresno State) to the ugly (Boise State and San Diego State), but all the favorites held firm yesterday.

MAC: Just one little note: Eastern Michigan's now one win away from a bowl berth.

American: Utah has a good excuse for losing to ASU; their hot-shot QB went down, and teams usually don't recover from that. Houston also has a excuse for losing; they were playing an in-state rival in SMU.
But USF just lost at home by 26 points to a 3-5 Tulane team. There are no excuses.

Big 10: Relax, Northwestern. At least you control the Big 10 West- wait. Don't you face Iowa in Iowa City next week? And didn't your rivals Illinois just win a game yesterday? Welp, goodbye!

Conference USA: OH! Oh, NOW Florida Atlantic decided to show up for the 2018 season! BRILLANT timing! Ugh...

And finally, UC-Davis and Eastern Washington will be fighting it out next week for the Big Sky title (or at least a piece of it). Early predictions, anyone?

Week 11- Group of Five special

I thought that after the first week of November, things would get BETTER in college football. Instead, I'm watching "Dude Bro Party Massacre III" while moaning the fact that Alabama is gonna win it's next 73 games and kill off college football ONCE AND FOR ALL-
*ahem* ...Sorry, I got emotional again. Let's just get to...

The Top 5 "Group of Five" games of the week

(All times are Eastern)
5. Toledo @ Northern Illinois [8:00 tomorrow, ESPN2] (At the moment, the MAC divisions are in pretty good hands in Buffalo and Northern Illinois. Buffalo's not gonna lose tonight, so will the Huskies? I mean, NIU has won their last 5 games by an average of 5 points, and Toledo has the offense to take them out... again.)

4. Troy @ Georgia Southern [1:00, ESPN+] (Oh! I almost forgot that the Sun Belt has divisions now! And now Troy is in prime position to take the East. Just one problem: Before they can face App. State in the season finale, they must bypass a surprising Georgia Southern team. A Georgia Southern team, by the way, who defeated App. State a few weeks ago.
But wait! GSU just lost to UL-Monroe last week, and lost their shot at a national ranking in the process. Will they be able to recover?)

3. Temple @ Houston [7:00, CBS Sports Network] (With D'Eriq King throwing for 30-TD's and only 5 picks, how in the hell did Houston lose to SMU- Oh, wait. Right. Their porous defense. Well, maybe the Cougars can recover against an exhausted Temple team.
Or... maybe Temple has another surprise waiting for us!)

2. USF @ Cincinnati [7:00, ESPNU] (And speaking of recovery, how in the hell did USF lose at home to a 3-5 Tulane team?! Now they're a 85% underdog against a Cincinnati team that's back in the AP Top 25. Will the Bulls break that Cincy defense, or is this the end of the line for Blake Barnett and crew?)

And #1 is... you guess it! It's on my "big-boy Top 10" countdown... which is coming up tomorrow! Again, sorry.

Week 11- Top 10 Games

A fair warning before we begin: I'm still a little mad at Alabama for what happened last week, so if their game this week is low on this countdown, that's why. Anyway, let's kick off...

The Top 10 Games of College Football 2018 [Week 11]

(All times are Eastern)
10. Fresno State @ Boise State [10:15 Friday, ESPN2] (...Well, that was quick; we already got the big "Group of Five" contest for this week. Anyway, it is time for another installment of this marquee rivalry in the Mountain West, and there's more than just pride on the line for Boise State here. They know that if the Broncos lose to Fresno, then Utah State can just waltz it's way to the Mountain division title. I hope that Boise offense is prepared...)

9. Wisconsin @ Penn State [12:00, ABC] (Back in August, I thought that this game would be "the playoff decider" for Wisconsin to vie for a national title. Now it's turned into a "manhood" game for BOTH of these teams; the Nittany Lions and Badgers are now 6-3 with their "New Year's Six" dreams shattered. What do each of these teams have left? That goes double for the Badgers offense; can they find a spark big enough to outrun Trace McSorley?)

8. Washington State @ Colorado [3:30, ESPN] (The sleeper game of the week. It looks like Colorado had fallen off a cliff after that 5-0 start, hasn't it? But they're only a 6-point underdog when Washington State comes to visit? Hmmm... maybe they know something we don't. Or maybe it's because Colorado is still angry over blowing that HUGE lead they had against Oregon State? Anyway, let's see if Wazzu can leave Boulder with their national title shot intact.)

7. Oklahoma State @ Oklahoma [3:30, ABC] (Yeah, yeah, I know about Oklahoma's dominance in this rivalry. But it's a in-state rivalry game, Oklahoma's #6 in the CFP rankings, and OK State will be treating this like it's their Super Bowl. And if the Cowboys defense somehow shows up, well... let's hope that Kyler Murray keeps a steady hand.)

6. Northwestern @ Iowa [3:30, FOX] (Last week, College Gameday was wondering about Northwestern and it's preparation for the Fighting Irish, saying stuff like "How do you adjust from life in the Big 10 to a primetime non-conference game?". Now for the better question: Northwestern pushed Notre Dame last week, but lost. So now it's "Can Northwestern readjust to life in the Big 10?" as they now travel to Iowa City. And if the Wildcats lose this one, they could lose their grip on the Big 10 West crown.)

5. Oregon @ Utah [5:30, PAC-12 Network] (Way to go, Utah! WAY TO GO! You could have had a strong lead in the PAC-12 South by beating Arizona State. Instead, we now have a 4-way tie in the division with 3 weeks left to go. And now their QB Tyler Huntley is gone for the rest of the year; how on earth will they counter Justin Herbert and Oregon?
Well, I do know that Jason Shelley will get the start for Utah, and that Zack Moss has over 1,000 yards rushing for the Utes. So let's see how Utah will adjust.)

4. Mississippi State @ Alabama [3:30, CBS] (Here they are; that miserable Crimson Tide. Well, at least Tua Tagovailoa suffered his first INT of the season last week; let's see if Mississippi State and their defense can somehow force him to have more.)

3. Ohio State @ Michigan State [12:00, FOX] (I know that both of these teams are ranked, but I'm not fooled. In this game, the pressure's all on Ohio State; their problems were glaring in their loss to Purdue and their close call against Nebraska. And for the sake of "The Big Game" that's coming up in two weeks, let's hope that Urban Meyer and crew have fixed at least SOME of those problems. Because the Spartans might be having problems at QB, but they're steady at every other position.)

2. Auburn @ Georgia [7:00, ESPN] (Well, Auburn and Georgia each took a game from the other last season, so I guess this is the rubber match. But what's this? Rumblings about Auburn and it's coach are surfacing once again. Are these rumblings legit, or are they just trying to stir the Tigers into shocking Georgia again? That Auburn rushing attack will provide the answer.)

1. Clemson @ Boston College [8:00, ABC] (This might be the trickiest game Clemson has left in their quest for another CFP berth. I mean, right now Boston College is too dumb to know when to stop winning, and even if AJ Dillon can't go for the Eagles then Travis Levy can step in and play a role. It'll all be up to Clemson's offense and Travis Etienne to keep the Tigers rolling.)

Game with the best chance to be a bust: Mississippi State @ Alabama (The mere fact that the Bulldogs are a 23.5 point underdog in this game [even though they're a Top 20 team] shows the lack of confidence that Vegas [and myself] has in this contest.)
Honorable mentions for the Top 10: Virginia Tech @ Pittsburgh, Wake Forest @ NC State, TCU @ West Virginia, South Carolina @ Florida, Baylor @ Iowa State, and Cal @ USC.

My prediction segment is next!

Week 11 Predictions

Wake Forest 17 @ (14)NC State 38
South Carolina 14 @ (15)Florida 21
(19)Texas 41

Week 11 Recap (Part 1- The Bedlam series)

This week, they'll be no tricks and no big set-up. Let's just see who survived this week.

Well, Alabama only scored 24 points, so Mississippi State SHOULD had taken advantage. Instead their offense SUCKED, and soon they disappeared. Clemson was able to handle Boston College, Notre Dame dispatched FSU with their backup QB, Wazzu overcame a slow start to beat Colorado...

Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma - Box Score - November 10, 2018 - ESPN ...and Oklahoma won another Bedlam Rivalry game. But just barely.

Week 11 Recap (Part 2: Rest of the Top 25)

Elsewhere in the Top 25 rankings, we had two upsets in the Top 15; Tennessee woke up and shoved Kentucky out of any "New Year's Six" talk (which is an upset), and UCF only won by 11 against Navy (which made me FEEL upset).

Also, Penn State decided to put Wisconsin out of it's misery and Texas held off Texas Tech in a reenactment of it's game from 2008.
South Carolina vs. Florida - Box Score - November 10, 2018 - ESPN Oh, and I actually watched this game straight through as Florida kept it's "New Year's Six" hopes alive.

P.S: Congratulations to Northwestern, for actually EARNING it's spot in the Big 10 title game yesterday!

Cal actually defeated USC!

California vs. USC - Game Summary - November 10, 2018 - ESPN

Okay, I know this isn't part of the Top 25. But this result was so shocking I had to bring it to your attention. Prepare yourselves for a lot of "Is Clay Helton on the hot seat?" stories on ESPN over the next week.

Week 11 Recap (Everyone else)

Now let's have a look at all the action outside of the rankings:

PAC-12: While Cal was stunning USC, Utah was saving it's season by beating Oregon in another close one. But Arizona State (by holding off UCLA) still controls it's destiny in the South division.

American: While Temple and Memphis got bowl eligible, Cincinnati was beating USF to set up a big game next week. Yep, it's official: Monstrous UCF vs. Upstart Cincinnati, for the AAC East championship! Stay tuned!

ACC: Uh, God? Why are Miami and Virginia Tech a combined 9-10 entering their rivalry game next week? Just... why?!
P.S: Maybe that's why Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech are bowl-eligible right now.

Big 12: Not much happened here outside out of the rankings, although I WOULD have loved Kansas to beat K-State in that "Sunflower Showdown".

Big 10: Right now Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota, and Purdue are all 5-5. Yikes...

Conference USA: A lot of cool stuff happened here! FIU's quarterback James Morgan continues to have a spectacular season, while Marshall gets bowl-eligible and Old Dominion shocked North Texas in the final minute.
Southern Mississippi vs. UAB - Game Summary - November 10, 2018 - ESPN And UAB wins a fun rivalry game against Southern Miss to win the C-USA West division.

Mountain West: So San Diego State lost it's focus and loses to UNLV last night? Oh well, misery loves company (They face Fresno State next week)! Oh, and Nevada's bowl eligible as well.

SEC: Texas A&M and Missouri was able to get that important 6th win... just in time for the SEC to take it's now-yearly vacation.

Sun Belt: Another fun day in this conference as Troy was able to vanquish Georgia Southern. And also, UL-Monroe is bowl-eligible for only the 2nd time ever! Just in time for them to play Arkansas State next week!

MAC: And finally, I needed to tell you that Eastern Michigan is now bowl-eligible. Yes, again.

Bobby Petrino is gone

How Louisville fell apart so quickly when Lamar Jackson left

Well, that was quick. Just ONE YEAR after the Lamar Jackson era, and the head coach that got him to the NFL is gone. But after reading this article, you kinda get it.

On the positive side, Dino Babers can now tell recruits "Hey, kids! Syracuse is the team that got Bobby Petrino fired."

Week 12- Group of Five special

So now it's November 13th, and already I'm shoving wet, heavy snow off of my driveway and sidewalk. Bet a lot of kids are happy about this snowy outbreak, eh? And so are some football fans, so let's inch closer to Rivalry Week with this installment of...

The Top 6 "Group of Five" games of the week!

(All times are Eastern)
6. Buffalo @ Ohio [7:00 tomorrow, ESPN2] (There's a reason why there are 6 spots on this countdown, and you'll see that later. Anyway, we start this countdown in Athens, Ohio where Buffalo is carrying a 9-1 record to this MAC East showdown. Ohio wants to stun the Bulls and stay alive in the division race, but I'll bet Buffalo wants to stop the Bobcats here, go to 10-1, and roll into Detroit as MAC East champions.)

5. Tulane @ Houston [8:00 Thursday, ESPN] (I was very, VERY close to lumping this game and Memphis @ SMU into the same spot. That's because both this game in Houston and the game in Dallas will weigh heavily on who'll win the AAC West.
In this game, Houston is in a pretty tough spot after losing their last 2 conference games. Now they must deal with an upstart Tulane team that now has the same conference record as them, and Cougars fans are really hoping that their defense will come back to them.

4. Memphis @ SMU [9:00 Friday, ESPN2] (And on Friday, SMU now controls it's destiny in the West division thanks to some close wins. But now they deal with a preseason favorite in Memphis on their Senior Day. It's Brady White vs. Ben Hicks in a shootout, with the West division pivoting on it's outcome.)

3. UL-Monroe @ Arkansas State [3:00, ESPN+] (Speaking of pivoting games in a West division, at #3 we have this doozy from the new-look Sun Belt. The winner of this game won't win the West division [thanks to UL-Lafayette waiting in the wings], but it WILL decide if Arkansas State will get a chance at another Sun Belt title or not. Expect a lot of points to be scored, and expect a HUGE game in the state of Louisiana next week if UL-Monroe wins this.)

2. San Diego State @ Fresno State [10:30, CBS Sports Network] (Here, there'll be no "MAYBE they'll win the division if they win this game" crap. Nope, this California rivalry {if the wildfires doesn't get to the kids of Fresno} will definitely decide who'll win the West division as Fresno and SDSU meet for the 58th time.
P.S: That's the 3rd time I said that a "West division is on the line" in this countdown. That's gotta be a record!)

Andddddd, once again the #1 game is on my "major-league" Top 10, so you're gonna have to wait 'till tomorrow to see it. And Spoiler Alert: It's WAY up there.

Week 12 Top 10 Games

I have nothing witty to start this post with, so let's just go to...

The Top 10 Games of College Football 2018 (Week 12)

(All times are Eastern)
10. Indiana @ Michigan [4:00, FOX Sports 1] (Let me be honest here: This game is only on here thanks to Michigan. I'm sorry to Indiana's QB Peyton Ramsey and his 2,335 passing yards, but in truth I wanna see how the Wolverines play this game knowing full well that Ohio State is on the horizon.)

9. Pittsburgh @ Wake Forest [12:00, ACC Network] (Much like Northwestern last week, the Pittsburgh Panthers has a chance to win on the road to clinch a surprise division title. All they need to do is stop the Demon Deacons to get to Charlotte.
But Pitt needs to be careful of Wake's new QB Jamie Newman; if he can beat NC State in his debut game, who knows what he'll do for an encore?)

8. Arizona State @ Oregon [10:30, PAC-12 Network] (It's a longshot, but if Arizona and Arizona State win their games on Saturday, they'll be playing a "Winner-take-all" game for the PAC-12 South next week! Why is it a longshot? Because both 'Zona and ASU has games on the road on Saturday.
First, we have this game in Eugene. Herm Edwards has the Sun Devils bowling [much to the relief of the ASU boosters], but let's see if his squad can rally past the Ducks. Then again, Oregon might be out of focus after losing a heartbreaker to Utah last week.)

7. Virginia @ Georgia Tech [3:30, ACC Network] (The sleeper game of the week. Georgia Tech is high off a bowl-clinching win against Miami last week, and now they're looking to have more fun against Bryce Perkins and the Cavaliers.)

6. Arizona @ Washington State [10:30, ESPN] (While the game in Eugene is going on, Arizona travels to Pullman for this sightly bigger game. Why? Well, LOOK! Washington State still has a chance at the 4-team playoff... AND the "Apple Cup" is next week! Can J.J Taylor and the Wildcats put Wazzu out of their misery?)

5. Stanford @ California [7:30, PAC-12 Network] (If you look closely, both Stanford and Cal have 6-4 records. One team's delighted to have that mark [Cal], while the other is really not happy [Stanford]. So we're gonna have a LOT of emotion come out in this contest when the "Stanford Ax" goes on the line again. To me, if Cal wants to take the Ax for the first time since 2009 they NEED to stop K.J Costello and this Stanford passing attack... 'cause I don't think Cal can outgun the Cardinal.)

4. Cincinnati @ UCF [8:00, ABC] (That's right, people. The American, a "Group of Five" conference, has managed to get one of their games the coveted ABC prime-time Saturday night spot. It just shows you how big this game is, as upstart Cincinnati tries to stop the Golden Knights and their 22-game winning streak.
And by the way, I'll bet that UCF has never heard of people like Desmond Ridder and Michael Warren II, right? Well, they're the new stars for the Bearcats, and they're ready to fight and pull off a stunner!)

3. Iowa State @ Texas [8:00, Longhorn Network] (So despite this being a contest of Top-20 teams, the Longhorn Network somehow managed to hold on to the broadcasting rights to this game. Very sneaky...
Anyway, this is just a straight-up elimination game in the Big 12. Yep, the loser of the game will DEFINITELY NOT go to the Big 12 championship in 2 weeks. And did you know that Texas QB Sam Ehlinger has 20 TD's and only 2 picks? Something tells me that Iowa State will force him into turnovers and keep this game close.)

2. Duke @ Clemson [7:00, ESPN] (Oh man... Back in July, somebody on this site told me that "The Duke vs. Clemson game will be the biggest game in the ACC this year". I thought he was crazy... at first. But look! Duke is 7-3 and putting up some great numbers, so maybe this WILL be a fun game! All Duke has to do is find a way around this Clemson defense... and ignore the fact that the Tigers will have 33 fired-up seniors ready to take their heads off.)

1. Syracuse vs. Notre Dame {From Yankee Stadium in the Bronx} [2:30, NBC] (I'm not gonna say anything to jinx either team, or anger anyone before this huge game in the Bronx. Just know that the turf at Yankee Stadium will be cold, but Syracuse's Eric Dungey has played through worst.)

Game with the best chance to be a bust: Ohio State @ Maryland (I just think that after all they've been through this season, the Terps are out of gas. That's not good when someone like Ohio State is still in the hunt for a conference and national title.)
Honorable mentions for the Top 10: UAB @ Texas A&M, West Virginia @ Oklahoma State, Missouri @ Tennessee, and San Diego State @ Fresno State.

...Wait a minute. Are you telling me that there NO SEC teams AT ALL on a "Top 10 countdown"? Ha! Maybe THAT'LL teach the SEC to stop having these mid-November "cupcake games"!
My prediction segment is next!

West Virginia is gone (Week 12 Recap-Part 1)

So the biggest thing to happen this week was Ohio State and Michigan getting scared in their warm-up games before Rivalry Week. At least both of them won, so that Saturday's main event stays in tact.

West Virginia vs. Oklahoma State - Box Score - November 17, 2018 - ESPN West Virginia, however, wasn't so lucky as the schizophrenic Cowboys ruined Will Grier's national title shot.

Other stuff to happen in the Top 25 included Texas out-muscling Iowa State to stay in the Big 12 race, Washington and Utah keeping hope alive in the PAC-12, and I actually watched quite a bit of Cincinnati @ UCF... until I got sick and tired of UCF forcing Cincinnati into mistake after mistake.

Boston College vs. Florida State - Box Score - November 17, 2018 - ESPN Oh, and it's nice to know that Florida will be the one to end FSU's bowl streak, not Boston College.

Week 12 Recap (Part 2: Conference recap)

LOT of stuff to look at here, so let's just get to the recap:

MAC: Since I forgot to cover the MAC this Friday, it's going first right now. Here, we saw Western Michigan continue to collapse for the 2nd year in a row and Northern Illinois leaving their offense at the door as Miami-Ohio got them. But the biggest news was Buffalo losing to Ohio and failing to clinch the East division.
Oh well. Buffalo can still clinch it by beating miserable Bowling Green- Wait. Didn't the Falcons beat Akron yesterday... to get their 2nd straight win? Uh oh...

Mountain West: Well, the West division is gonna stay with the Fresno State Bulldogs as they beat SDSU, and Hawaii is now officially going to a bowl this year.
Utah State vs. Colorado State - Box Score - November 17, 2018 - ESPN And Utah State beats Colorado State to go to 10-1... even though they almost had a heart attack while doing so.

Sun Belt: The Ragin' Cajuns are now bowl-eligible (and still in control of their division) after beating South Alabama. All they need to do now is beat their arch-rivals, and they got a Sun Belt title shot!
Oh, and just know that Troy and App. State are ready for war next week.

Conference USA: Southern Miss now has the same amount of wins as FAU after they've beaten Louisiana Tech. That wouldn't be so newsworthy if FAU wasn't 5-6 right now!
Elsewhere, FIU now has 8 wins on the year and Middle Tennessee came close to stunning Kentucky.

American: With the East decided (even with Temple rallying from a 17-0 deficit against USF), we now turn to the West. And with Memphis beating SMU and Houston handling Tulane, it'll now be "winner-take-all" on Black Friday when the Cougars and Tigers square off...

Week 12 Recap (Part 3-Conference recap continued)

Now before I go to my CBB thread to hype up some more s--t, here's the rest of the conference recaps:

ACC: Much like Ohio State escaping Maryland and Utah State escaping Colorado State, we all thought that Clemson was gonna have to escape Duke... until they score the last 35 points of the game. Props to Miami and Georgia Tech for winning their games as well. And how about Pitt? By beating Wake, they're now going to their 1st-ever ACC title game!
My dark side: "Hey! What about Syracuse at Yankee Stadium?"
Me: "...We don't discuss that one."

Big 12: I know, guys. I know. I can't believe that Kansas DIDN'T get destroyed against Oklahoma, either. And also, TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, and Texas Tech are all 5-6 now. :hungry:

Big 10: Wait a minute... Nebraska just won it's 4th game out of the last 5. Something's starting to happen over there!
Wisconsin vs. Purdue - Game Summary - November 17, 2018 - ESPN Meanwhile, Wisconsin manage to outlast Purdue in the best "under-the-radar" game of the week".

SEC: So Alabama was a 51-point favorite yesterday? ...Maybe that's why they didn't cover. Oh, and thanks to Vandy beating Ole Miss and Tennessee losing to Missouri, the two Tennessee teams in the SEC are 5-6 now. :hungry:

PAC-12: And finally, Joshua Kelly ran for 289 yards for UCLA as the Bruins might have just gotten USC's head coach fired. Oh, and thanks to Oregon holding off Arizona State, Utah will now be going to the PAC-12 championship game as South division champs. Round of applause!
