"WTF is wrong with the Wizards"

*watches tonight's game*

FUCKING EVERYTHING

Good lord they are trash. I mean I already knew it since I had watched their other games but still. I think I would have actually had more respect for them if they just quit at halftime.

One Answer: Ernie Grunfeld

Has any other GM in history ever weaseled their way into such a long term position by doing everything in their power to keep a low profile and therefore avoid all blame and media focus??

He is like the dude from Office Space before they "Fixed the Glitch".

I am not even sure the Wizards are aware he has been their GM for FIFTEEN YEARS of mediocrity or worse...

Think of l th picks they Wasted on rentals and crap

Agreed.

But, I honestly can't remember the last regime that did have a vision.

Because the same mistakes and worse were repeated in the 20 years prior to Grunfield's arrival.

Fire Grunfield and everybody else associated with him and let's bring on sam Hinkie!

Agree (certainly Unseld was as bad or worse). However - the previous regimes were when Abe Pollin owned the team. I truly believe that Leonsis would really try to get this right (& he helped to ensure that the Caps were successful).

The biggest weakness for Leonsis is his loyalty. If they were to finally honestly assess things & dump Grunfeld I believe that Leonsis & others would try hard to find a GM who actually knows how to run a team. Hard to tell if that would be successful, but it certainly can't be worse & I pray that they actually go this direction in the not too distant future.

BTW IMO the pre-Grunfeld mistakes for the Wizards/Bullets were mainly due to Wes Unseld as a GM. Just like Leonsis - Abe Pollin was fiercely loyal to Unseld & it ruined the team. They made the classic mistake in believing that a good player automatically translates into being a good coach and/or good GM. Unseld was neither & he did as much bad in his role as coach/GM as he did good when he was a player (& helped lead them to their only title a million years ago).

We see this time and time again in the NBA. Having an ex-player being a bad coach in the NBA is usually not too bad & can be short term. An ex-player becoming a bad GM can be disastrous & the effects of it can last many, many years.

I do like that Leonsis seems willing to spend and also willing to let his basketball/hockey people do their jobs, unlike some Washington owners.

I am telling you, the goal for the Wizards throughout my entire lifetime has always been 40 wins or so. Always. It is the worst goal ever. It is also why I am always so hard on teams who refuse to rebuild when they should.

Certainly hasn't been 50 wins.
