Report: Patriots free up cap space, allowing greater trade potential

The New England Patriots have adjusted cornerback Stephon Gilmore’s contract, which should allow Bill Belichick to explore trade options more freely, according to The Boston Herald’s Kevin Duffy.

The contract adjustment has left the Patriots with $5.379 million in cap space, per NFLPA records. This year’s trade deadline is Oct. 30.

names being floated out there like bell (no thanks)...but...theres a back in detroit whos being under-used who does very well here. i mean, its happened before right?

side note: brady has 7 picks in 7 games. he had 10 in his last 28 prior to this year. granted, like 4 of those are not his fault, but...

Report: ‘Whispers’ Suggest Sony Michel’s Knee Injury ‘Not Quite As Bad As It Looked’

Rapoport said on “Good Morning Football” that while there remains some “mystery” on the specifics of the injury, it’s possible that Michel has avoided a season-ending injury.

“He does have an MRI [Monday]. We have not got firm word on what the injury is,” Rapoport said. “I’m starting to hear some whispers that maybe it’s not quite as bad as it looked. But until you get an MRI, until you really know what all the scans show, you really don’t know very much.”

I think they try to get Jamie Collins or Chandler Jones back.

Jones especially could be doable given Arizona is sucking big ballz.....

And they need a pass rusher and a fast backer wouldn't hurt either.

Jones contract has to be huge numbers. Not sure that’s their need.

Haha. They do... for sure but he’s gotta be big money and I think they may have bigger needs. RB is a real issue. Two of the guys they had entering the season are on IR. Michel is now banged up. That literally only leaves James white and the guy who formerly played for philly who they picked up off the street.

They will bring back Gilislee on the cheap. Michel isn't hurt too badly and as long as White stays healthy. They could probably pick up Blount for a song.

But if they don't win a Super Bowl this year, the fault will be on defense. An offense that can regularly score north of 32 points a game need the defense to hold their own. The current iteration is not.

I'd be inclined to lean in the direction of Collins. They need a mobile linebacker. I still have a hard time forgiving him for allowing Marshawn Lynch to get open in that Super Bowl down the sidelines but he might be just what the Dr ordered.
