Why? These long ridiculous 5th set tiebreakers basically guarantees they're not competitive in the following match

I'm a fan of the no tie break in final sets in slams rule. I just find it unique. Not a fan of them getting rid of something unique.

Discussing it with the other 2 GS events too. I am sure the Aussie will change too. French who cares. It will be 1 more reason not to watch.

I think this is perfect. Playing up to 12-12 means they get to play an extra set before going to the tiebreaker

I respectfully disagree

TBH I would rather have a straight 6 all tie break. Do the 12-12 thing in 3 setters. I would be in favor of going to 3 sets in majors if the TBs were at 12-12.

Great. The old format is like teetering into the figurative macabre or dance of death; 26-24 Isner/Anderson? That's isane.
Pardon me. I mean "insane" and not a play on Isner, :D

meh, playing well enough to avoid long matches is part of the game.

Now the next rule should be to ban double handed backhands! It’s an UGLY shot and tennis was meant to be played with a single hand.

those are smaller one week tournaments.

No I don't think about it because it is silly. If your premise is correct why do they have to end any tie brake in a set with a best of 7?

there's a difference between a tie breaker deciding a first or second set, and a tiebreaker deciding a 4 hour long match tied at 2 sets all, 6 games all, in a grand slam tournament. why end a long hard fought match with a game with an abbreviated format and different rules, thats all about economics, and not tennis? if you can't break serve and hold it, you don't deserve to be awarded the match.

Darn.

I agree.

I like the drama of not knowing when a match will end. If I know a match in the next 12 mins, because of a tiebreaker, then it's not as exciting.

And I don't like how there's different rules, as someone stated.

And I also agree with the comment. If you want to avoid it, then break serve. Or if there were already breaks exchanged, then break again.

That's part of what I like about extra innings baseball. I don't know if a game will end in 1/2 of an inning, or 4 more innings.

Not a fan of shootouts in the NHL either to decide a game.

Tennis was one of the few sports that played by the same rules from start to finish, unlike the NHL, NFL, or CFB.

Also, I always remember what I was doing when watching an extended 5th set.

Now, if it's a 12-12 tiebreaker? The matches will blend in. The scoreline isn't as unique.

To me, it shows a great physical and mental stamina to not give in and keep going.
