It was a horrible start. The starters have been outstanding, the bull pen still sucks and Kelly proved it again today. Sales pitches a shutout into the 7th and Kelley comes in and immediately gives up 2 and walks two or three.

Can't bring in anyone other than Embree in a close game before the ninth or it's a major sweataroo.

It was 1 game out of 162. You were talking about firing Dombrowski after one game. This thread was a stupid overreaction.

And I was worried about the bullpen coming into the season, but they have had one of the best units in the league. They're in the top 5 in ERA, FIP, xFIP, WAR and 7th in WHIP. 2nd most saves (34) and 3rd fewest blown saves (8).

Also, Embree hasn't been on the Sox since 2005 and Matt Barnes has been quite good.

2018 MLB Team Position Performance by Wins Above Average | Baseball-Reference.com

Pretty incredible to think the Sox are at the top in WAA despite being dead last at two positions (2nd and 3rd) and 2nd to last at catcher. They were below average at CF, but Jackie's turned his season around offensively (.270/.338/.497 since June 14, .848 OPS since the All-Star Break). Both WAR stats currently have him around 2 wins. Their OF has easily been the best in baseball this year (10.7 WAA, Brewers are 2nd at 7.4). Only 11th at shortstop despite getting a strong season out of Bogaerts, but that has more to do with the other shortstops being mediocre (Holt and Lin have 95 combined PA at short).

As much as our catchers suck offensively, Leon does at least rate as one of the best pitch framers of 2018 per StatCorner.
