I mostly buy cheap gloves because I lose or mangle them so often. I also usually need to keep them off when I park outside to lock up the house and get my stuff in order until I start the car.As I've gotten older my appreciation for a good pair of gloves has grown. Keeps the digits from getting stiff. *cue stiff "digit" jokes*
The exception is for skiing, I will buy decent mittens for that occasion as well as glove liners and chemical hand warmers. My daughter has heated mittens with batteries, but I have not treated myself to those yet.
I have tried wearing gloves liners for driving to keep my hands marginally warm until I can put gloves on, but they get damaged so easily that it wasn't worth it. Got used to wearing multiple gloves as a kid because the cheap ones we had were so bad, also slept with up to eight blankets on me because they were poor quality and my feet were right next to an old single glazed window that would get totally coated with ice.
