If the Chiefs traded a 3rd round pick and got him, if he leaves as a FA, would KC then get a comp pick? Granted it would be a year later...but still?
If and only if the contract is big enough and the Chiefs don't cancel out via signing a net loss in FA's and signing not FA's of the same paygrade.

Which is a big maybe.

Jones, Fuller, Hill should command a good amount of money. If they let Thomas walk, those 3 should be manageable. Extend Thomas and it becomes much more complicated.

Ok, but they'd still get the credit for losing a FA...when he only played for them for 1/2 a year.

In the end, I believe Seattle would be dumb to not trade him if they can get a 3rd or better. The reason is that is the max they would get for him as compensation, but they're moving up the compensation by a year, provided they don't resign him. Which all indications are they won't or he won't resign with them.

If the Chiefs do trade for him, and they don't sign him long term, they're kind of delaying a draft pick by a year. Obviously the net FA loss formula comes into play, but if they have all those guys to resign, dipping into FA would be more difficult to not come out net positive for draft comp. Unless of course I'm reading this all wrong or the guys they have suddenly flop and force the Chiefs to pass on them and look for others.

This is exactly why Bell is holding out.

You go out there leave it all on the line for a franchise who won't pay you what you think you're worth and now he just missed out on millions more than likely by suffering a likely season ending injury

Now everybody just loses on the deal.

Seahawks won't get anything for him now, a team trading for him won't get his services, and ET might lose money in his next contract.

If the Cowboys offered a 2nd for ET the Hawks should've taken that and ran when they had a chance.
